This looks nice, what is the insulation rating on this merino beanie?

GeneralPostsGP, I'm not exactly what to say for the "Insulation Rating". The Merino Wool we are currently using for this run of Woolies is 195GSM. It's a light weight knit that's maybe just a hair thicker than a standard T-Shirt weight. The headband is doubled in thickness while the top is single layer material. It's an all season beanie meant for more activity than our ultra-warm down hats. I have a few of the woolies and really like to wear them out for walks in the 40's and 50's. It's not to say people won't wear them in colder temps but I would consider it a base layer. If you are sitting in the rain and wind you will feel it through the hat. If it's crisp and cold out the wool will definitely cut that cold feeling. If you are out winter camping this might be what you toss on when you pack up camp and hit the trail. It's just some of the most beautiful Merino I've ever felt and we thought making it into a light beanie would be perfect for it. Hope that helps. Evan

BlackRockThank you, I was just trying to compare to other merino providers who generally provide a i medical value, such as 150, 250 etc for the. See layers and that is basically how I determine, right or wrong, how "thick" the fabric is and thus how warm it is. I think the 195 gsm is the number I was looking for to reference. Thanks for the response!

GeneralPostsYup. The gsm is the grams per square meter which is a measure of fabric density. The typical T-shirt in cotton is usually around 180gsm. This particular run is 195. It's a really nice weight for the hat.
