Here's a useful post about Canadian duties: http://reviews.ebay.ca/Canada-Tax-GST-HST-PST-Canadian-Duty-Custom-Import-Fees?ugid=10000000015752722
Our experience with shipping goods from the US to Canada: If we use UPS/Fedex, their customs/brokerage always charge $35 to "handle" the parcel at the border and inspect/clear it. There may or may not be a HST/GST/etc tax charged on it at that time. If we use USPS/Canadapost, sometimes they just waive the parcel through without charging anything, other times they charge an ~appx $10 fee for handling it as well as taxes on it, those show up as CoD from Canada post when it arrives.
As always, Massdrop provides no quotes or guarantees as to what a country charges for duties or shipping. All international packages go out through USPS (or UPS MI which bounces to USPS), which is generally the lowest cost international option. We also provide no estimate or guarantees for international shipping times- sometimes it's really quick, other times it's brutally slow.
