So after carrying either of my two knifes from this drop the Chaparral seems to have lost its edge pretty quickly. All I did was open a few boxes and plastic bags with it, now it chews through a bag of salad rather then slice it open nicely. Is the CTS-XHP steel that bad? Is it defective, or dose it need just a really good sharpening. I can't say I've ever owned a nice knife before, suffice to say I've never sharpened a knife either.

ASpathaNo your knife shouldn’t loose it’s edge from just cutting plastic bags and a few boxes like you said in your post. Was the knife sharp out of the box?

SCtallguyIt really seamed to be, I can tell the Delica is no longer as frighteningly sharp as it used to be but I've been cutting allot of different things with it. The Chap had what I thought was a good edgy on it able to get through paper with a push cut. I am no expert but both knife seemed to be really sharp then drop off and hold there current sharpness. I really need to get some mediocre knife cheap so I can learn to sharpen with stones.

ASpathaYes you should. A good tool for someone who hasnt sharpened a knife with a stone is a manufacturers sharpener. Gerber, kershaw, spyderco, case, Buck and countless others all make and sell them. I’d start with those first then have someone show you first hand how to do it. I know a few guys who have messed up a blade or two trying to sharpen on a stone that didn’t know what they were doing. They watched videos on it but just didn’t do it right themselves
