So it could be S30V... Well it's still better than D2 or VG-10. I'm not mad about it, but I'm disappointed. It does make the price make a bit more sense.
Maybe next time don't tout the upgrade from S30V in the drop if it's not what we're getting. "The blade is made from CPM-S35VN—an enhanced version of CPM-S30V, which was praised as the most impressive blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance."
Couple of additional pointers for next time: Don't have serrated edge knives in the top banner for the box if there aren't any (scared some people early on). Check, double check, and then triple check the specs on your models. Make sure there aren't any math errors in the drop (as we saw with some of the bonus information). Keep people informed if things change or are incorrect about the drop after they've purchased.
These are all things that should be simple and while I love MD, you folks definitely dropped the ball on this one a couple of times. We all make mistakes, being transparent and working to correct them shows you care.
Alright, last thing before I stop editing my post. According to Spyderco they swapped to S30V because they claim it had very slightly better performance. Metallurgy aside, I still think it's a decent value. The base model on BladeHQ is roughly the cost of the box.

MaxwellDemonicI’ll second that! A down grade from S35VN to S30V for the base model is a large disappointment and definitely not acceptable. It’s one thing to change specs and upgrade without notification to customers but not okey to down grade.

johanumThe s35v was a major selling point in the write up and specificaly how it was so much better than s30v. Not acceptable to me if I get that model. They will have to refund me.

rcshredI'm far more annoyed that my g10 "upgrade" is also linerless now. They're literally charging $60 for a heavier material that's less comfortable than their FRN.
