I can get the base model here for less than $130 and you can too. Another writer here says he can get it for $123 and I agree with that. This is gambling and the house always wins or they would not do it. I normally don't win these things so if I want a Native 5 in the pretty basic model I am better off buying it for less on the open market. If you are a gambler then be my guest but don't cry when you loose because the majority will loose.
Spokes30Of course it's a gamble but there is very little downside. You are trading $7 for a 40% chance of a significant upgrade. Those aren't bad odds. Massdrop isn't a casino, they make money because they buy at wholesale not because they're swindling you with stacked odds. It's a way to give something extra to the consumer without violating spyderco's minimum advertised pricing agreement with retailers. Are major online retailers like blade HQ and knife center cheating people? They charge $130 for this knife with 0% chance of upgrade. The only reason I'm not participating is because I qualify for spyderco's opfocus discount and can get the s110v version for $100 or the maxamet version for $125. That shifts the odds significantly. So I'd have an 85% chance of overpaying by $5-30 and a 15% chance of an upgrade. Too much downside.
