878's arrived here in Cincinnati! First impressions: Incredibly effective at blocking out background noise, very sensitive (don't need to be turned up hardly at all to clearly hear the music, even when outside. They are rather heavy on the bass and the highs are, while present, are slightly more attenuated than I would like. Then again, the box advertises them as being "kind to your ears" which I guess means there isn't any in-your-face treble that can cause some people discomfort. They are very lightweight with a 45 degree connector. The cord is thinner than I would like, but at least the stress-reliefs are supple enough to prevent damage. Speaking of damage prevention, they came with a really nice pleather bag that, instead of a zipper, uses a spring clip on each side of the opening. All you have to do is pull it open to put the buds in or take them out, and it holds itself closed with a pronounced "pop" of the clips straightening out to close the bag. The buds are constructed out of what appears to be anodized aluminum with a metal screen protecting the drivers. This should make for a very durable finish. Lastly, they include a sizable variety of silicone tips of varying sizes and lengths, including a single pair of double-seal (or whatever the proper name is) tips, though one of them had a small tear in the back of it. Bad on you, quality control, but it works just fine and that pair does richen the sound even more and widens the sound stage noticeably.
