Got mine to work, staring shamelessly in awe at the RGB now! First QMK and I want to post and help other noobs like myself if possible. My success stems completely from "textonly" and "blacksunix"posts under the BM-16A drop discussions https://www.massdrop.com/buy/bm-16a-16-key-programmable-mini-pad-kit/talk/2331792 READ these. The only changes I made were to use the json layout files for the BM-16S from the Google Drive Get: QMK Toolbox from Github, install it Get: the default JSON and instructions from manufacturer Google Drive. This is on their Aliexpress page for the BM-16A as mentioned by "jf647" here. So you can just search for it as well.
  • I used https://kbfirmware.com/ to modify my layout. Upload the "BM16S.json" file from the manufacturer Google Drive pack into kbfirmware.com
  • This loads the basic layout in kbfirmware.com. Customize it
  • Backup your json if you wish under the Settings tab. Then go to the Compile tab and export the ".Hex" file and load it into QMK Toolbox. Make sure the right chip is correctly selected in the toolbox UI
  • Connect the board to the computer. I shorted the reset pins, labeled "RE" next to the smaller of the board chips, with a pair of needle nose pliers. Definitely gonna solder and run an external switch there at some point...
  • The keypad will be put into DFU mode with this reset, and will then be visible in the QMK Toolbox console. Here you can flash your custom Hex file to the board
  • Unplug, replug
Again, me noob, much to learn, go to sources

Huh I have no idea, I have "RGB_MODE_FORWARD" as one key to cycle the modes, but I'm not sure how to program individual ones if it's even possible. Would be interested if it was

This would be perfect if it was wireless (still tempting) Not sure why nobody seems to make a wireless macro pad yet. I've been using a wireless mechanical number pad instead.

True. I'd have been ok with a non LED solution. I ended up picking up an Elgato Stream Deck for my macros.

Are the hotswap sockets compatible with regular MX switches

An Ergodox or Iris might be right for you!

Check out dygma.com they are basically head on with what you are asking for. Essentially two separate "pads" that can connect together to form a keyboard, multiple thumb keys where the space bar would go, with the main downside being that its quite a bit pricey, but definitely something unique.

With these hotswappable switches, can you plug in regular MX stem switches? I know it'll make the profile much higher, but just asking.
canyoudigNo. The metal contacts are in a different position

obermanMake a patch out of aluminum foil and tape it to your upper arm. Either. Wear it for eight weeks.

How do you program the keys, and where can i find my information about the product? "BM Workshop" and "BM Workshop keyboards" google searches just bring up BMW repair shops.

mjoseph97If it's anything like BM16A (normal cherry mx-like switch variant), then it's programmable via QMK firmware.

mjoseph97Under "Specs", it says "Fully programmable with macros (QMK supported)". So you can use QMK software to program it.

Anyone has any guide on the kailh choc switches? I'd like to know the specs of each color for the switches mentioned here.

VadimGutYou can find the spec sheets here. It's the standard linear/tactile/clicky with 50 and 70g actuation force https://novelkeys.xyz/products/kailh-low-profile-switches

I'm able to use this device by plug and play means, but I'm having an issue when trying to put this device in DFU mode. I've tried using the RESET macro and shorting the board, both produce the same result. Windows 10 recognizes that something changed and I end up with an unknown "ATm32U4DFU" device in Device Manager. If I unplug and plug, the device returns to normal. However, QMK Toolbox never detects the device throughout all of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for my late reply. I'm also looking for a tool for setting the lighting of each key individually, but not find yet. By the way, I found the manual for BM-16s. Access here, download the files and extract them (source).

equuleus@equuleus I'm able to accomplish assigning individual LED colors by writing my own keymap.c file. I don't think there's an easier way to do it for now.

Do I need to solder or do anything other than snap together stuff? Does programming allow for multikey macros with time delays? Whats the onboard memory/max keystroke limit for each key?
fvaeIt is hot swappable so no solder is necessary. Just snap everything together and tighten some screws
