Apparently the original knives had nylon washers! I'd like to know what washers these use first.

KizerIt looks as though they still use nylon washers. See the review by RD66. Also, I love the blade shape and size - but I would prefer 3mm thick on the blade. Even at 3mm the knife would fail at the pivot long before the blade itself.

KizerYeah...5mm? I love me a beefy knife, but it seems like this one might be asking more of the supporting structural elements than can be reasonably expected of them. And with a half cm thick, 2.5" long blade but only a 3.9" handle (if I'm remembering correctly that OAL is 6.4"), it's guaranteed that knife will be subjected to some serious torque, as the slab o' steel binds in the material being cut, and the user tries to push it through or pull it out of the cut. But hey, what do I know? It looks great, and $100 is a decent price for a titanium frame lock and marble front scale. Just seems like giving it some ZT-style, KVT-type bearing to ride on would have been a prudent way to add stability and strength for not too much cost. I'll have to check on of these out in person when next I'm to the shop.

KizerI have seen and handled the Micarta version. It seemed very solid all around, definitely a beefy blade that weights the whole knife forward, but in a way that felt deliberate and controlled, not just an unplanned for consequence of the design. I am not interested in buying one though, because of the handle. I like the shape and feel of it, but I have strangely proportioned hands: palms that are larger than the average for my overall size, and fingers that are shorter but thicker than would be average for the size of my palm. In other words, the worst hands possible for playing the piano (so I instead I went with...the guitar!..and eventually ended up on drums.) Anyway, with knife handles, I find a lot of them end in a weird place for me, because the width of my fingers takes up maybe 10-20% more real estate than other people's. And it's one thing if a knife handle is, for example, designed for only three fingers and I can hold it with three; what's uncomfortable is when it's designed for three but my third, the ring finger, needs just a bit more handle, like maybe 5mm, to get a secure purchase. In those situations the knife feels squirrelly and insecure in my grip, which I start thinking about too much and try to adjust, and after a while I'm spinning the knife in my hand, shaking out my arms, and resetting my grip so often it almost becomes a nervous compulsion. I end up looking like a batter before stepping in to hit against a good pitcher, stretching, swaying, scratching, tapping, touching, twitching, snorting, spitting, and finally stopping the baseball Tourettes for about 1.5 seconds while the pitch comes in before going right back to it. You can probably guess where this is going, and you're right: those Summit Knife handles end in the weird spot were I can't comfortably get my finger (the pinky in this case) on, nor comfortably hang it off the back. I had a similar problem with the Massdrop/ FF Falcon; I think handles about 3.5" are the worst length, and that's an unfortunately common handle length. Two final notes on the Summit Knife Co...Half Dome! I couldn't remember the name of it, but the model is called the Half Dome: #1, if you mean, as I think you did, that you personally are not willing to pay $175 for a knife, no matter how great a knife it may be--I totally understand. I too have my upper limit, which I won't name specifically here because I find it uncomfortable to feel like an irresponsible profligate. But if you were saying that the $175 is too high for the cheapest Half Dome models, which are the ones with micarta or G10 front scales ($225 for all titanium, I think), I would disagree. That price for a titanium frame lock and slab of an M390 blade is, I think, fairly reasonable. #2, holy crap they're Italian knives! I thought they were American or maybe even Chinese. At the risk of stereotyping my own ancestors: my experience with Italian knives is that they are a gamble from one knife to the next. One will be beautiful, perfectly made, the next one in the shipment will be full of rough edges, have an uneven blade grind, stripped hardware, and bits of dirt in the pivot. It's like some days the Italian knife makers feel like working and turn out pieces of art, other days theyre not into it, and do the barest minimum required...just like the stereotypical picture of an Italian. And as far as I know, if you were to bring up the concept of "QC" with an Italian knife maker, he'd ask how he was supposed to sew a knife ("cuci" = sew)? So for me, everything else can be forgotten--there is no way I'd buy an Italian knife without being able to personally inspect the specific knife I was thinking of buying. No playing with floor models, etc. I need to check out the knife I'd be taking home.

KizerThey'll be nylon. Countycomm specs on the mollusc were mostly wrong - the basic design was still a nano, including flat grind, washers etc.

HatuletohI know it's been a while, but have you seen this? I have one in my pocket now, and another in the drawer (it's a BOGO deal). And there's another 10% off if you use the code LTK (from the youtuber Luv Them Knives)They're awesome; big, heavy, tough. Bigger than I'd normally consider. The specs are deceiving. I really like them; and great value. Handle is great ergonomically. Lots of reviews on youtube by LTK etc. These are the G10 / D2 variety, not CF / S35VN, but less than a quarter of the price. 4.88" handle, weight is to the rear. It actually sits nice in my pocket. Handle might be too tall for you though, to wrap your fingers around, unless they're a normal sort of length :)
