Own three Burnley Kwaiken Folding knives (different handle materials) which I alternate daily. Have owned a number of pocket folders over the years and since
discovering the BK several years ago, it has become my favorite carry blade. Have not experienced any of the conditions described by RMH. The Massdrop delivery
was timely, the price competitive & the knife in perfect shape!
I liked it as soon as i took it out of the box. In my hands it's very balanced. Handles great. The only problem with recommending the knife to a friend is that i don't any one personally that collects knives. This will fit part of my collection perfectly.
Initially I was really impressed by the knife, but extensive use has revealed 2 flaws, one in execution, the other in design. The pocket clip is not recessed into the green micarta scales, so it moves around no matter how tight the screws are. I've seen other examples where the scales are recessed for the clip and it is so much better. The design flaw is that the blade edge is very close to the edge of the knife scales, with no protection. I sliced open the tip of my finger even though the knife was closed. I don't carry the knife anymore because of this flaw.
I leave 4 stars because otherwise this is a very nice knife. I love the shape, and they did a great job with the heat treat.
Great knife overall. Only downside is when it’s closed you can cut yourself by sliding a finger against where the blade is in the handle. Pretty easy to overcome otherwise.
It's poorly designed, and/or poorly manufactured. The blade does not stay in the handle, it sneaks out a fraction of the inch, which lines the very sharp point of the blade rather parallel with the handle. If it's done this, and you run your handy along the handle to reach for the knife, or just to get something in your pocket, it'll cut you. My fingertips ache as I write this, recalling the cuts. I keep it in a drawer, because it's too dangerous to have anywhere handy.
So, effectively I spent money on a hazard. If you like keeping hazards around, it's a very nice hazard, sure to spice up your day with surprise cuts to your fingers. It's attractively designed and feels good in the hand, it's a shame its flaw completely invalidates its existence. I've tried to pawn it off on people I don't like, and that's not worked too well either.
All in all, a regrettable purchase that's given me a very disparaging view of the brand.
Both USPS and FedEx claim the product was delivered; if it was delivered it was delivered incorrectly and I never received my Kwaiken. Drop Customer Support was very responsive and have agreed to refund my purchase.
