The descriptions here are misleading: two models are identified by color alone ("black" and "brown"), while the third is specifically labeled "olive wood" -- it's not, as can by clearly seen from the grain pattern! Even calling it "olive" would be misleading; it could more honestly be termed simply "blonde."
It would be easier to believe that this potential misidentification with the highly-prized olive wood was inadvertent, if Boker hadn't also branded the block itself the "Makassar" - correctly a term for one of the varieties of ebony. In either case, the (intended?) result is to imply greater value for the product than it's earned. This intention is even clearer in their Amazon presentation, which offers the block in Black, Makassar or Olive "colors". While that kind of mislabeling can be expected on a caveat emptor site like Amazon, I expected better of a supposedly "community"-based operation like Massdrop.

I just would be afraid that I would knock a knife off and it would spear my foot.
I use plastic cooking knife scabbards and just keep knives in a drawer.

Well, first of all I live in Japan and we don't have a lot of counter. Knife storage would not get any of the precious counter space to begin with! Although they are not on the counter, if you saw my mini Cuisinart food processor (dough for one tiny pizza) and my mini Twin Bird bread bakery (produces five tiny slices), you would laugh. Before I buy anything new I must decide what I am going to throw away. We don't have any space to spare.
I am very careful about knives though, and I clean, dry, and stow them away right after using them.

CloacaTotally understandable. I have very little counter space myself....just couldn't picture how they would get hit to send them flying lol (and meant that to paint a funny mental image, not to be insulting)

InthreeThe black and olive seem to be around the same price as massdrop but the brown one which easily looks the best is $90 more expensive on amazon

Djghost1133$10 less is not "about the same price" :) They are significantly less and you'll have them in 2 days. The Brown looks good but will scratch easily, as will the black. The light color is the only way to go if you expect it to remain looking good. I have a similar block in dark brown and it scratches easily unfortunately.
