Sure wish Massdrop would make it their policy to list the country of origin in the initial description to save a great many to have to dig for it. Gives impression of an attempt to hide something unless asked. Most everyone asks now, as all the tricks have been played.

JOYCEfromNSJOYCE, while I agree with you in regards to having a more detailed description, would it be safe to assume that you are new to knife collecting (assumption)? I have been for a few years and one thing that I did is lookup different manufacturers, knife lines, history, steel types and the list goes on and on. It is common knowledge the country of origin and manufacturing of this specific line. After some time, if you get more into collecting, you will know this. Enjoy the hobby, you have been warned... ;)

JOYCEfromNSIt's pretty common knowledge that the Boker Plus line is Chinese or Taiwanese made. Might not be known to everyone joining this drop, but like you said, all you have to do is ask and you'll know, rather than try and pin it on some type of conspiracy.

ImperatormagnusThat's not always the case though. Even the companies that make knives almost exclusively in China or Taiwan will occasionally make a knife in Japan or the USA. I collect knives but am not a hardcore avid collector. I just collect what I can afford and what I fancy. So I don't hang out on the Blade forums 24/7. I only check in from time to time if I'm looking for a specific item or someone to "pimp my knife". I wish more retailers would list place of origin though as I prefer items from Japan and the USA.

EdgarMaybe my post was thought to be only applicable to the knife world as thats where I posted it. What I'm suggesting is; apply it to all Drops from knives to knitting needles. Its not only collectors who could be interested in any specific drop. Many drops ( not this one) are very wordy and the place of mfg is unclear - here it was only absent. Its always known by Massdrop, so why not always state it, why object to that, only because some collectors know it?

JDM5LugHatchThere's no reliable nation-based quality differences. There certainly are differences between makers, but anyone can set up a superlative manufacturing process anywhere in the world - it's about standards, tolerances and creating an industrial culture of excellence - not about the geography of where the plant's located or about the ethnicity of the people working there.
Reate, Kizer etc make great knives in China; Spyderco's Taichung manufacturing plant (Taiwanese) have exceptional fit & finish probably surpassing their Seki City (Japan) or Golden (Colorado, USA) knives.

yiriYou, Sir, are absolutely and completely right.
I don't know why so many cling to old ideas and ignore the fact that, today, quality of any manufactured product is solely dependent on having a properly set-up factory, with the right equipment and machinery on the factory floor, choosing the right materials, and the proper workforce, duly trained for taking care of the production.
As you so well said, geography, location, ethnicity have nothing to do with this anymore, and it has been so for a few decades now. Time to lay these old ideas and clichés (which sometimes border on racism) to rest.

JDM5LugHatchNo, quite literally the Boker PLUS line is made in China or Taiwan, that's what makes it a "Plus" brand. If you want a Boker made in Germany you look for the non-plus line. I realize I should probably not assume everyone knows, my apologies, but hopefully this helps for future searches and purchases.
