MD, lets get one thing clear: if you think 3.4” is long, I pity your wife. Also, little side note, in the description it says blade length is 3.4”, but specs list it as 3.5”.

BaccaBossMCYes, MD is overdue for more quality control in their descriptions, not least in dimensions. However, they’re not the only ones who get it a touch garbled. For instance, on the three sites that koiloco (below) cites comparable prices from, KnifeCenter has this exact model (BO01B0721, Urban Trapper Tanto) as ‘Blade Length: 3.00”, Overall Length: 7.00”’; BladeOps describes it as being 3.4” and 7.4”, respectively, and KnivesPlus has 3.5” and 7.75”! Seems the damn thing shrinks or grows as you travel around the ‘net!
In fact, what’s happening is either sloppy measuring, a difference of opinion on how to round off the numbers, or a combination of both. If it’s really important to you to have an accurate size before you decide to buy, find someone who already has one – in person that is, not someone who’s just putting in their 2¢ worth, either here or in Amazon’s “Questions Answered” sections; they’re just as likely as the above to be wrong, and for the same reasons.
Or simply go to the manufacturer’s site, and get it from the cutlery horse’s mouth. Here, that’d be https://www.boker.de/en, where a little noodling around will tell you that this knife has an 8.6 cm blade, and is 18.9 cm overall. Since there are exactly 2.45 cm to the inch (no kidding, that’s the actual official definition of an inch!), that gives you a blade of 3.385” (~3.4”), with an overall length of 7.44” (~7.4 or 7.5”, depending on how generous you feel). (Of course, this pre-supposes that Böker is giving exact measurements, and isn’t doing their own rounding down or up, themselves!)
By the way, since we’re all interested in comparative pricing, particularly since MD’s own “bargain factor” is problematic at times – and two of the domestic sites above are “out of stock” on this item – please be advised that Böker themselves list the knife at €119.95, or over $137.00 at present.
