So it's probably inconsequential to most but anyone know if this thing will brew using a smart switch... e.g. will it start a pot if the power switch is "on" when it gains power? I have a slightly unusual process where a programmable doesn't always make sense so I use a smart switch to start the pot from my bedroom or bathroom (via Alexa) so it's ready by the time I hit the kitchen.

ElectronicVicesI own the 10 cup version and have thought about this. The switch is a temporary one, in that you press to activate and it does not stay in that position. It reads the pressed state and then reverts to it's static position. As such, I can't see this being used as 'start brewing when I give you power' unless you somehow deconstruct and tap into the switch wiring itself.
I do like this coffee maker though, maybe just consider that by grinding and putting into the filter int he AM you're saving some freshness while giving up some convenience?

slumberlustThis is amazing info since I had essentially the same question. A fun dorky project might be something like a RasPi with a little arm attachment that would press the button at a certain time!

SoundbearIf you're going that far, may as well replace the button with something that can be fired directly by the pi or an Arduino, via relay if it carries power, or via logic if it's just a momentary switch. Far more reliable than attempting a rube goldberg contraption to actually actuate the existing button. :)
