I’ve got the big brother! Makes excellent coffee however the carafe lid is a piece of junk! Constantly leaks and has very restricted flow! Still, good unit decent price!

DrummingManCame on here to say exactly this. So here's my experience in case anyone else is waffling between this and the much more expensive Technivorm. I have this 5-cup model, which makes delicious coffee. Indeed, that is all it does, which I love. No clock or additional buttons and, best of all, no beeping. When it's done, the LED turns off.
However, as you say, the carafe is junk. In my case, it's more than the lid, which only recently began to give me problems (now it dribbles out as I pour). The portion where the black plastic connects (or doesn't) to the stainless steel allows coffee to seep out at the handle. Additionally, more often than not the brewing process leaves a puddle of coffee all over the bottom of the carafe. I measure my grounds and water, so it's not an issue with overfilling. It even happens with only 3-cup brews. If only there were an aftermarket carafe!
I regret getting the Bonavita and wish I had splurged for the Technivorm Moccamaster.

David_RInteresting, I have the 8 cup version and do not have issues with leaking from the carafe lid. I do get a puddle at the bottom, but for me it is strictly only when I put a couple of extra ounces over 8 cups. I'm not arguing that you have an issue, because obviously several people on here do, but it's odd that I do not. Maybe I have one of the few ones made correctly?
Edit: it's 8 cup, not 10 cup.

DrummingManWow, I'm surprised to see some of these results. I hate the stainless carafe (love the coffee, love the machine, just wish the carafe were different) on my 8-cup, mostly because you can't actually empty it. No matter how you shake, rotate, or flip the carafe, there's always a little bit of coffee/wash water in the bottom. It's enough that I hesitate to ever put soap in, knowing that I heave to triple rinse just to hope I'll get all the soap out.

oedo808Wow, my 8-cup carafe actually holds about five cups more than I could make with a full brew reservoir. I assumed this was to prevent overfilling even if you still had a few cups of old coffee in the carafe... is that what happened to you, maybe?

DanielRJacksonYep, my 8 cup reservoir holds less than my carafe so I usually go just a bit over and it's fine. Occasionally I'll go a little too over and it pools below the carafe. I'm with you I think it's to prevent over filling. It's not an issue for me though, I love mine. I actually had an issue with mine that was probably more my fault but it was still under warranty and they sent me a new one. I'm extremely satisfied with mine and would buy another one if this one fails. Customer service was amazing, I didn't have to ship it back, just explained the issue and they sent me a new one.

oedo808Yeah, what you experienced makes sense to me. I think you're probably right with regards to quality control--some just aren't sealed properly. I may try to seal the gap myself or gamble on a new carafe. They're not cheap though : /
