excellent response AND the truth. Distilled water is very cheap. However, well water is no more likely to have more solids in it unless the owner does a poor job of water treatment in his home. Even with good water treatment and city water calcium and magnesium dissolved solids(primarily) are what cause the white powder and since they are dissolved(!) are not directly filterable. The level of these elements is dependent upon your local water source and is not changeable. Therefore, the real solution is STILL distilled water which is distilled from pure water vapor and the solution is simply H20!
schreibSee my above edit. I started to get the powder with city water after a few months of spotty maintenance. Sounds like distilled water is the way to go.
MuezickIt doesn't. Hard water is NOT acceptable for use here. At a minimum you must use SOFTened water which replaces the Calcium and Magnesium hard ions with sodium ions. This minimizes extent of white powder.
Anyone have experience with this? The average reviews on Amazon are not great. Good price, but I might stick with the Vornado Evap 40. Replacing the filters is the only bad part about that humidifier, although on high, the fan is loud.
