del316You'll need one, and I'd recommend soldering wick as well. It will be super helpful if (when) you need to remove a solder.<br /><br />Tyll over at InnerFidelity did a great writeup on the crack, and also included a nice tutorial-ish video as well. del316Do a drop on a soldering iron? Sure, but the one from RatShack will do the job just fine ($10-12). That was my first soldering iron before I upgraded to a Weller when I got into Nixie Clocks and Ardunio's. You just have to be quick with the soldering since there is no temp control. I built a S-5 Electronics K-12M with the RatShack iron.
