After getting over my initial disappointment at opening the box and finding "only" a pair of Brainwavz Jive staring out at me, I gave them a try.
iPhone 7 > Apple CCK > Dragonfly Red >Brainwavz Jive
All files are ALAC, and I try to grab only non-loudness war infected releases.
I like these earphones so far. The clear rubber tips that were already on the 'phones seem to work best for me. This is a first in my experience. I always prefer the Comply foam tips, or I have to purchase Comply foam tips. Hopefully, these rubber things won't irritate my ears, because they provide a good seal and sound fine.
For $24.99, these are good. I'm listening at low- to moderate levels, and they don't seem to over-emphasize large swaths of any part of the frequency spectrum. Very accessible sound signature.
These won't replace the Massdrop x NuForce EDC for gym use because the cord is a tad too short, but I can see me going to these things at work when I'm pretty much glued to my desk. I also wouldn't cry if I needed to loan these to a family member. :-)
UPDATE: After listening for 4+ hours while banging away on my laptop at work, I notice crackling and popping - like static - coming from the earpieces every so often. Not sure if it is due to my set-up, the dry environment, or something else. It doesn't occur often - usually only when I move. I haven't quite been able to nail down exactly when/why it happens. Mildly annoying. Not enough to make me put them away - yet. Will keep using to see if I can learn more.
I've used mine for all of 4 days now. I have also noticed some crackling and popping but it is rare. It's unfortunate. I definitely wouldn't order a pair of these on it's own, but I would probably do another blue box with a chance of upgrade.
