Would these be an upgrade from a pair of Etymotic MC5 IEMs as far as sound isolation and quality go?

I have these earphones. Great earphones but not for all types of music. And $89.99 is really good price.

Can't say I would like the feel of those cables running over top of my ears. That looks to be the case with these.

WTSHFTMost likely, my S1s were shipped via USPS along with every other package I've received from Massdrop.

I own a pair and have to say that it's a great deal for $89. They ARE comfy though look a bit bulky. Nice sound. It has enough low mid and bass frequency for any type of music. Good clarity. A little bit more of highs would be nice but you always have an EQ on your audio player/mobile phone in case if want to add some. With foam tips they're absolutely streetsoundproof.

Never heard of these, but they sure look uncomfortable...

BruceRSurprisingly, they are actually very comfortable when worn over the ear. The memory wire was the biggest issue for me (though those have been removed). The cable is quite thick though (hopefully that gets revised as well) for mobile use. Great pair of IEMs for 90 bucks.

Just FYI. The description mentions memory cables. Apparently, there's a revised version of the R3 that does not feature memory cables (refer to the link below). Would appreciate a confirmation, indicating which version is being sold here.

PolygonHi AudioSage! Great question. I just pulled a pair out to check, and it's the newer, revised version without the memory cable. Picture is identical to Mark's review. I've asked our team to fixed the description accordingly.
Best, Danny
