I can't understand all of this criticism. The amp works perfectly with my two main headphones the AKG KXX and the Sennheiser HD700. If you use a modicum of caution you will not burn yourself although it is possible and should be addressed. I never turn a volume knob up before turning on an amp, so whomever did that has themselves to blame. Here is a tip always turn a volume knob to it's lowest position before turning an amp on, with any amp or system you own. I think the sound is terrific, I get no extraneous sound at all and suspect something is possibly wrong with that tube or amp. There isn't much play with the volume knob, this should be addressed. I have a zillion tubes to roll and found this amp relatively impervious to tube changes , but did not have the Russian GEC 12AU7 to try. Did roll a genuine B309 Marconi with good results. The stock tube Chinese Shuguang 12AU7 is better than I had anticipated. The amp is not warm or any of that other nonsense people who don't understand tube amps think. It is clean and reasonably detailed making it a good match with the Kxxx, and good if you like an analytical flavor with the HD 700s. In sum a real steal at the price I paid <$60, now more not as much a bargain but still for sub $100 I don't know what is better.

MechansI love this amp, but I will make a clarification to the background noise issue noted by @Mechans and @c-los - you can get ungrounded background noise, but it depends on how it's connected. "What," you say? Well, once again, this is not a grounded amp. There is no third prong on the power cable. If I connect only my tablet or phone to the amp, I'll get background hum. This will lessen if I ground myself to some metal, then touch the metal nuts on the top of the amp, thus suggesting this is a grounding issue.
"So, what's the solution," you ask? Simple - I also connect the SECOND input to my computer. Voila - total silence. The computer is grounded, and it makes all the difference in the world. I hope this helps someone else love this amp as much as I do! :)
