This is my first hand mill coffee grinder. Once it arrived, I cracked open a fresh bag of beans from Black Rife Coffee Company, and filled the hopper and started grinding. I found that about 50% of the time, I was grinding nothing. The coffee beans were too large to feed properly into the ceramic grinder, and that single hopper took around 45 minutes to fully grind.
I then pulled out my mortar and pestle and gave another hopperful of beans a quick initial grind to break the beans into smaller pieces. This did the trick, to keep the coffee moving consistently into the ceramic grinder. I was then able to grind about 4x the amount in about the same 45 minutes.
For me this is not a show-stopper, I already had the mortar and pestle, so I will keep using this routine to grind beans. Future buyers just be aware of this issue.
