For people concerned about D2, Jason works with the metal exclusively. Yes, there are super steels out there, even at this price point. I've got more than one with M390, and many with S35VN. I've given up being a steel snob because you know what? D2 sharpens incredibly easily, and holds its edge quite well. I HATE sharpening M390. The only real problem D2 may have is for people in humid or tropical regions, where corrosion can become an issue. I highly recommend Aegis EDCi spray, which quickly and easily protects the blade. ApostleP on youtube whether you love him or hate him knows his way around a blade, and this is his favorite steel. Personally, I'm not crazy about this particular blade shape, and won't be joining the drop. Do be aware though if you have any problem with the knife, Jason will take it back and make it right. Personal experience. He'll even sharpen it.

Clutch_CargoGreat info and recommendations all around, thanks for contributing! Your experience with Jason lines up with mine and many others'. I will check out Aegis and see if it works to make that spray available on Massdrop if you'd like.

Got mine today. Excellent quality. Very nice knife. A bit smaller than expected, but a great EDC. I'm happy with the purchase!

Sure is a good thing I don't expect Massdrop blades to ship on time. But now I have to worry if vendor will actually deliver.

D2 Has become a budget steel over the past year. However there is more than just the steel. There is the heat treatment. I have heard that Jason Brous really has it down on D2. That is why that is all he uses. Paul Bos at Buck might be the best person at heat treatment in the world. He can take a substandard steel like 420HC and make it quite good. D2 is one of the most rust resistant tool steels, but it is not stainless so you should still keep it oiled.

Anyone know if the acid wash on the D2 might be prone to surface rust or whatever it's called

Yes but I don't believe I stated that it couldn't. Thanks for clarifying!

ThatGuy333i would not recommend the acid stonewashed finish if you live somewhere that is very humid. If it was just acid wash it would help protect the steel a bit. The stone washing buts tons of little tinny dimples on the surface of the steel. If you don't keep it coated in oil moisture can get trapped in there and start to cause pitting. Like on a gun thar goes to long with out oil on it...
