I love the look of a tanto blade but man are they a pain to sharpen. Probably a lot more easier if one is skilled with a whetstone but i'm working with a Sharpmaker.

Sharpmaker's still got you covered for that. Use the normal method, but treat it like two separate blades. I would do the short tip area first, then do the long flat second. Keep it slow and careful, try to sharpen both sections evenly by counting strokes, and treat the transition between the two parts just like you treat a tip: try not to run it off the edge and round it over too much (though, this particular knife isn't a sharp angle at that transition point by any means) Or, flip it over and use it like a narrow bench stone:

If you do this, wedge it between something to keep it from sliding around

Well, you commented over a month after I did. Inventory and prices obviously changed at some point in between.

iammgrossWe are all becoming Steele Snobs, AUS-8 is perfectly acceptable..... Marketing of upscale Steels has pushed up prices , and while i am glad to see more varied options, and things like more D2 showing up on budget knives, etc., I just think we too often dis good, reliable steel (just my opinion, ymmv)..... Frankly, I'd like to see more consumer info on what type of heat treating is done by manufacturers to knives I'm interested in, but again maybe that's just me....

iammgrossLook at real world cut tests. It performs extremely well compared to 8cr13mov, mass produced D2, 420HC, etc. And, has the benefit of easy sharpening. Yes, it's tough steel when manufactured properly.
14% of Americans live in communities that require that knives have blades of 2.5" or less. Who was the genius that decided this knife have a 2.6" blade?

Yeah, that's what I've always thought too... in the spirit of the law, as deep as someone could stab with it, should they so choose. Problem is, not all manufacturers advertise by that same method. I personally don't really care, doesn't effect me, it just got me curious when the ads and the manufacturer are stating an eight inch difference, sounds like just the right amount for varying measurement points, ya know?

Kavikin california, if you're going to be carrying a legal sub 2 in. auto or balisong, that 0.1 in makes a big difference. had cops come to a friends house because someone saw him playing with his knife in traffic. cops were understanding, asked to see the knife, talked a little about knives and left. but remember to ALWAYS get a receipt if a cop takes your knife.
