A tribute to Bulova’s acclaimed 1970s “Devil Diver” watch, this updated version features a self-winding mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve. Donning a bold combination of blue and yellow—a colorway limited to 200 pieces that's not currently available in the US market—the watch is both sporty and stylish Read More
I have the red/black version of this watch and love it. I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from. About 15 years ago I went through and bought an original (vintage) version of this watch and, despite servicing by a reputable company that specialized in vintage watches, gave me no end of trouble. This current watch is a very accurate (and updated) modernization .
To refute some specific hate:
1) The original "Bulova 666" diver was issued in the 1960's (a decade before Seiko made the "Turtle" everyone is affectionately referring to in 1977). It was a contemporary with the legendary Seiko 6105 (which I also have owned). So it is unfair to call it a "poor man's" anything. See: https://www.watchonista.com/articles/depth/bulova-history-firsts-exclusive-excerpt-bulova-666-devil-diver
2) The movement in this reissue is much nicer in my opinion than the vintage automatic ones - parts and servicing are readily available. And trust me, you don't want to have to deal with having one of the vintage ones "serviced."
3) The lume vials are just ... wow. And they hearken back to what was a major innovation decades before "Luminox" started the gas tritium trend.
4) The bracelet is great; it has that vintage look without the vintage rattle.
5) The logo is true to the original 1960's era Bulova one. Why people think it's "cheap" is beyond me - it's an applique logo not some ink-printed one!
So you get a watch that is relatively true to the original, with a slightly up-sized but still reasonable case size, and more modern/reliable movement, with better crystal and band. A lot of care and attention went into the design and only conservative changes have been made from the original. I do agree the price is a little high for this edition, but I would not hold that against the watch itself. If you can find a more common color combination under $400 (or look for a refurbished one as I did under $300) it's well worth it.
And I don't work for Citizen USA/Bulova, or Drop.
AtlantaTomI don’t have a problem with a logo being there or the font but the execution is terrible. The connections to the other letters are too obvious and huge for a $500 watch.
The green version is the best looking version. Sadly overpriced on all the colorways. I like the under the glass magnifier and the pips on the dial. Maybe if it were 200.
Also that linked letter Bulova logo is horrid. Such a lazy design.

That would be the least accurate, and most naive criticism of this watch yet posted.
The very separate and distinct histories of each brand and model aside, the poorer folks among us would actually save a hundred bucks by choosing an SRP777 ($369 on Amazon), over this version of the Bulova Oceanographer, which, mathematically speaking, makes the Seiko Turtle a "poor man's" Devil Diver!!!
So put that in your that in your pipe and smoke it, Vern ;- )
Yeah like most have already said a bit of a let down. Nice that the colour is different but you can get the same watch Amazon even in Canada for the same price right away. Not a real compelling purchase.
Hack-a-sac....this has got to be the most disappointing drop(s) I’ve seen. Mass drop....drop....what ever you call yourself...Could you please grow a pair and put some damn timekeepers up that are actually a deal. Man this is getting redonkulas.....f me to tears.....scratching my eyes out....pulling my hair out.... looking for a strong drink.....please make it STOP! 😫😫😫🤯
We have received an update from Bulova regarding this watch: The movement in this watch is a Miyota 821D and it does not have a hacking function. It does however have added shock resistance built in (above the standard 8215) to meet ISO requirements.
I believe I have answered the hacking question to my satisfaction--these don't hack either.
Evidently this color way was part of the European release, but not the North American release (?)
No idea why, but I did find some better photos:
Hello! Thank you for your interest with the Oceanographer. We are checking in with Bulova now about the specific movement and will post as soon as we receive an update.
