Through the drop, I purchased the hammock, straps and tarp. Based on the solid reviews and price, I figured this would be a good chance to try a camping/backpacking hammock. This is my first hammock of any kind, really, but I've been around the block with camping/backpacking gear, so hopefully my impressions aren't completely novice. I’ve since had the hammock set up in the back yard for a couple of months and slept a couple of nights in it. Getting ready to take it out for a solo hiking weekend, using a SOL bivvy as a sleeping bag alternative. Build quality of all pieces looks really good. All stitching is clean and straight, with no frays or loose ends. Reinforcements are present in enough places that it looks like there have been some refinements along the way. For example, there are fabric reinforcements on each end of the zippers to protect the more delicate hammock material. The only part that looks delicate is the netting and pole stays, but the Byer folks state this up front for weight savings. That said, my 8 year old son already managed to flip the hammock upside down while trying to get out of it and everything held up with no stretches or tears. On the functionality front, the netting poles stand out as the unique feature. It really keeps the canopy feeling open and relaxing. I also noticed that this makes the storage pockets on the netting make a bit more sense. My wife put her phone in one and enjoyed listening to an audiobook without it feeling like the canopy was collapsing in on her. When I backpack with them, they’ll be stored with the tarp stakes. What isn't really advertised is the handy guy line cord for the netting, with a simple mechanism for tightening. Works really great. Only downside I see is that it's shorter than the micro-straps, so this line will be your limiting factor on hang length. That said, it's pretty standard, inexpensive nylon cord, so would be easy enough to make a longer line. You could also upgrade to a stronger and lighter cord, if you want to hang longer distances. I’ll be making a slight modification with the netting in order to add a ridge line for added comfort when hanging. On the length front, I'm 6 feet tall and there‘s plenty of room above my head and below my feet, again making it feel roomy inside. I'll reserve judgement on long-term comfort after I sleep in it after long days of hiking. It does seem a little narrow for a proper diagonal laying position, but it's my first rodeo, so we'll see. The micro-straps are indeed dead simple and I like how robust the hardware is. Had no reservations about sitting down in the hammock the first time. There's plenty of length too, so that should make it pretty flexible. That said, they are definitely not ultralight and will likely serve for camping/home duty and I’ll upgrade to a woopie system to save weight for hiking trips. The tarp is really robust and well thought out. Again, not ultralight, erring on the side of durability over weight savings. The guy lines are extra long, with stout metal adjusters (another opportunity to save weight with dyneema cord and line-loks). Each corner of the tarp has a built-in pouch for stowing the cord, which is another nice touch. The Shephard’s hook stakes seem robust enough, though a bit heavy. There are 8 included, so the tarp can be used as a stand-alone shelter without trees. All-in, the whole system weighs 3lbs, which is a bit more than I’d prefer. But again, this is a bit of an experiment and for the price I’m extremely pleased with it all. Looking forward to hanging out in it.
JRiddleWOW! What an awesome review. Thank you for taking so much time going through the details of each one of our products. I'm interested to hear your thoughts about the length and width and if it allowed you to have a comfortable diagonal lay during your trip. Please reach out when you have the time. danh@byerofmaine.com

DannyhammockCool. Will do. I just got back from a 2 night backpacking trip and have some more detailed feedback. Overall, it‘s really nice system for casual camping, a sturdy bugout bag or shorter weekend hiking trips where you can save space and weight elsewhere. Great value.

I have used this Hammock three times so far. I really like it and will only return to sleeping on the ground if there are no trees available. (This is possible in the desert) I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hammock, bug net and the straps I purchase as an option with the hammock. The whole system sets up quickly and easily. All nights I used it, I slept very well and felt very rested the next morning. I did not wake up sore and stiff like I often do after sleeping on a pad on the ground. I am now a hammock convert! I am 6'1" 205 pounds. I will be looking into an under quilt to add now that the temperatures are dropping.

This hammock is a really good value. It is very basic, functional and comfortable. While it doesn't have advanced features like a built-in footbox, it performs very well and is a great starter or occasional camping hammock. This hammock is a great hammock to help decide which of the advances features are important to you, if any.
The upgraded features like removable netting poles and slightly increased length seem to work well. I don't have the previous version of this hammock, but I have a different netted hammock that is shorter and doesn't have poles, and this is a big improvement. I really appreciate all the room I have under the net on buggy nights.
The only nitpicking I can do is that the little plastic tips on the removable poles came off right away (I glued them) and the pockets on the netting seem kind of fragile and like kind of a bad place to put anything heavier than a watch, so I just don't use them.
dustinvThank you so much for your review. We took feedback from people like you to make these improvements, so it makes me happy to see someone that recognizes the changes and hear that it makes a difference.

Loved this product. Easy to unpack and get into, which surprised me with the netting. Just as comfortable reversing it and using without the netting. I ordered the extension straps with this hammock as I was unsure if it came with hanging hardware; I'm glad I did as I was correct and these straps were SUPER user-friendly, even on palm trees. Unfortunately it was such a nice hammock that it ended up getting stolen from me right out of my car, so if this drop becomes active again I'll be picking up another. Maybe two.
carterthechemistThank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear your hammock was stolen. It is available right now if you want to grab another. If you can't take advantage of the deal this particular time please reach out to me and I'll treat you right! danh@byerofmaine.com

Good hammock. Have continued to use this for my hiking, with mods. Replaced ridge line and cut bugnet loops, and added velcro to the bugnet loops, so I can now flip hammock easier. Got aftermarket straps and buckles. Not a fan of the bug net pockets, too fragile, and anything placed in them sags or obscures the views. Material good, comfortable sleep. 177cm 88kg. Could do with some hooks and or tie outs for my underquilt, like some other hammocks. But for the price, still an incredible worthwhile piece of kit. Packs small, and is not too heavy. Other campers in Australia, where hammocks or not as popular, are incredulous at first, but impressed on closer inspection. ( They don't want to get out!)

yeah baby
I keep it in my car. Useful for parties where the couch is nasty or family rentals where I need peace and quiet. My wife laughs at it but then I laugh at her when i am one with nature. I was afraid mosquitos would bite through the bottom part but no worries there. This thing is a solid performer and comes in very handy. I recommend everyone have one in their car right next to their jumper calbes.

This drop made the Byer of Maine Moskito Kakoon Hammock more attractive then purchasing the moskito net for my Eno. I use it whenever I need a hammock with a net. Functions and holds up well. Easy to modify to support quickly with anchoring tethers.

Borrowed one of these for a family campout from a buddy of mine and decided that I needed one. The net spanners are excellent for keeping the net up off the occupant but collapse down for easy storage and transport.

Love the hammock. Can't be beat for the price. Very comfortable. Easy to set up. Zipper is nice and doesn't hang. Wish it were longer and wider. I'm 6'1" and when I lay diagonally for a flat lay my face is against the mesh which the skitters enjoy more than me. Massdrop pine quilts work wonderfully with no mods as of yet. Ridge line slips when moving around inside. Easy fix though. All in all I live it and sleep in it almost every night in my back yard. Thanks Byer of Maine and
