I am very interested to know if anyone has tried both this & the ThermaRest Luxury UltraLite Cot? I have been eyeing up the ThermaRest for some time now, the price tag is about $70-$90 more steep than the drop price listed, however, the thing only weights 2-3.5# depending if you get the regular or large size. Honestly, my pad weighs almost that much! Plus, it doesn't have any cross bars to dig into my "oh so sensitive aching" back at the end of the day! LOL call me old, but hey, if I don't have to sleep on the ground!

VaderNot sure if you are implying that the Byer cot has crossbars that dig into your back or if you are saying the ThermaRest does. There's a much higher chance of the ThermaRest pad digging into your back than the Byer cot. I think it probably boils down to size/weight between the two. The Byer is larger with 25lb more capacity but heavier. Personally I think it looks more sturdy as those legs on the ThermaRest look pretty shaky to me.
Ultimately they are different in many ways. If weight is your goal you will save 2lbs going with the Thermarest (but lose 3 inches in length). If simplicity of assembly, lower noise (the ThermaRest is a bit noisy) and sturdier construction is more important than the Byer is the way to go. The Byer is also less than half the price as well.

SantiagoDracoThank You! I don't really know a whole lot about this cot. I do know I have slept on the TR with my brothers on a hike w/ them & my ever faithful hiking companion Riley (aka Buggy, dogs w/ trail names, what next! LMAO!) Slept quite well for the whole 10 day hike in The Kettle Moraine Driftless area. So it was a challenge w/ a lot of scrambles, and inclines/declines in elevation, and thus a good nights rest was essential for all of us. kax got me one TR cot, and it worked amazing with my TR pad. I guess I didn't notice the loss of length because I am not all that tall, 5'7" makes for a short statutes hiker, though Yaz's cot had a good few inches more than mine, so I guess there are diff sizes you can buy. I am not sure. Weight is always a bit of a concern since I tend to pack for 2 Buggy & myself, an 85-90# muscle machine needs a lot of food and H2O. Plus I carry 2 of a lot of items, even if he carries a good 5-8 pounds depending on weather, heat, shade, humidity, etc, etc, etc. I do sincerely thank you for your input. I think I am becoming a very firm believer in the "ultra lite" cots/chairs, type systems. Seems to me, if a pad is going to weight a good 2-4# might as well sleep in luxury! (Obviously I do NOT think of myself as an "ULTRA LITE" & "Speed Hiker"!!! LMAO) Happy Hikes! Thank you again! -V & -B.

VaderI know I'm almost a year out in this response, but I have the LuxuryLite cot size large that I use for some car camping. I'm not sure from your question whether you are referring to that one or to the newer Thermarest UltraLite. They're not the same but similar construction. More complicated assembly than the Byer appears to have. Cross braces are not close to your back and do not dig in when you lie on it. They're a bit fragile, though, and I have had several bend slightly although still usable. Weight is awesome.
You made some comparisons to the weight of a sleeping pad. Keep in mind that the cots aren't really insulated, although the UltraLite looks like it has some reflective film incorporated (LuxuryLite does not.) Other than summer camping, you still may find yourself packing a pad too for insulation.
I'm giving some thought to picking up this Byer cot as a second one for car camping. (I wouldn't add the weight of any of them to a backpack trip.)
