I needed a new reasonably priced desktop microphone for giving training classes and basic online calls, but I didn’t want the standard plastic corporate issue or some gamer thing. This microphone works great and has a terrific retro look for an incredible price! The all metal housing construction gives it a real quality look and feel, nice and solid with a good weight. While I am in no way an expert, the sound quality to my ear is very good.
Two small quibbles (but at $49 I didn’t even lower the rating):
The housing is designed with the stand mounting threads and the USB cable connection on bottom of the mic. It is a little too easy to accidentally grab and yank the USB cable when you move the mic around. Not sure how this will wear on the USB socket over time and accidently pulling the USB cable out of the socket is a real possibility. Not a huge issue, but could become annoying.
The included stand is perfectly usable but if you are interested in this microphone you are interested in the aesthetics, and this stand doesn’t do it. They didn’t have to provide any stand so I don’t want to be too critical, but I think most people are going to want to upgrade.
Beautiful, faithful reproduction of a classic mic!
Just received mine from DROP on Friday. This homage to the original Astatic A77 is pretty stunning. I have an original A77 from the 60's and this newly made microphone is cosmetically identical. Very nice quality chromed metal (stainless steel I presume). This mic was re-introduced in 2022 by the Ohio company that owns the Astatic brand. It was made in China for them but, again, super nice quality. Drop must have bought their remaining inventory as it appears to have been depleted. There are a few more left on Amazon by other sellers at, shockingly, the same $59.95 price. Highly recommended! I hope DROP somehow gets more of them.
