This company must have a killer marketing department. This entire the discussion thread is about how anyone who has tried one of these things hates it, but they've sold like 500 and I can't find a bad review anywhere else online.
I‘ve read many reviews that talk about breakage, leakage, and general problems. Can owners weigh in on their experiences? It sounds like this goes more in the category of great idea that just doesn’t work well.
solistcamy unit had this issue out of the box.
getting a replacement was unsuccessful.
so i wasted money and have created more plastic to put in landfill
I love great coffee, enough that I own a specialty coffee shop, and whenever I go camping, I just bring higher quality instant coffee. Starbucks Via Veranda is my goto, though I've yet try any of the Steeped stuff.
NOT.WORTH.IT!
Does it pack smaller than an Aeropress... yes, but is infinitely messier, more complicated and does not yield any better coffee. I have one of these stuffed in a closet (pre-MD) if you really want to purchase one and try it out. I'm sticking with my Aeropress... I just wish AP would come out with a Pyrex-style glass version.
This thing looks sloppy and the video sounds like the whole thing is loose. What's wrong with a tea bag full of coffee grounds? Bought 10 packs of sealed singles all the time when I had to travel for work.
SchuylerIf you are happy with a "tea bag full of coffee grounds." then this is not a device for you. This item produces coffee in the same presentation as the Aeropress, a very distinct characteristic and highly reviewed stylistically. Some people are swear by this press method and would not want to drink coffee any other way, those who are happy with other more convenient methods would not do well with the device and its added steps prior to drinking coffee.
SlarkinIt is closer to an Aeropress than a french press. When you squeeze the coffee out, the grounds are left behind. Also, the very fine laser cut filter allows very fine (almost espresso grind) like the Aeropress instead of the coarse grind of a French Press.
Does it grind the beans too ? The first picture showed unground beans. It's just a lightweight coffee press, probably good for tea too. If you really need camp coffee not a bad device; overpriced. BUT, if you can build in an accordion style grinder !? THAT would make this item and price, crazy rockin. [And if it played old pirate tunes while grinding, but hey, that's just me]
Here's some herb grinders I'd modify, for not so fine grind, and build into this product.
