I couldn't find mention of the "designer software" on the cameo website, only "studio". Does designer software give you more capability to do your own designs? I'm primarily interested in cutting fabric for applique'. I couldn't find any better deal on this package at Joann's or Amazon - maybe equal. Sarah Vedeler Designs has some good information about fabric preparation and comparison to the GO cutters. I have the GO and for applique, its great for lots of a limited number of shapes. Both CAN be compatible with digitized embroider designs. I'm hoping that the designer software with the silhoutte will allow me to integrate them cleanly.

Yes it does. The Designer Edition allows people to import their own artwork as well as create new designs. I'm not sure what software you're using but I know you can use JPG, BMP, PNG and also SVG* files.
*I'm not familiar with using SVG files but I have used JPGs and PNG files myself and it's pretty easy.
