I'm switching to Sony and I have a mint condition of this lense if anyone is interested in saving a few bucks more. Purchased in Dec 2015 and infrequent use. No scratch anywhere. Thanks
Howdy Everyone,
In our US spec Canon drops there has been alot of discussions about warranty lately. I did not want to provide any type of response until now as I wanted to be absolutely sure about what we are able to deliver.
I have verification from Massdrop's authorized distributor that anyone who purchases Canon products through Massdrop will be registered with Canon for warranty, support, & service through our authorized distributor. You will receive the full warranty that is stated on the drop page directly with Canon.
Thank you.
Tex-ArozziCut and paste from your answer on the Sigma Contemporary lens, you even left it as Sigma instead of Canon (for this drop). For ANYONE interested in these, unless you have no interest in a full warranty, call either Canon (in this case) or Sigma in the other and ask them. You do not have to believe those of us trying make sure the buyers are aware, or B. Hutch.. Be an educated buyer and call the companies directly and ask. That will resolve your issues. Neither will accept a warranty claim without a receipt from the authorized dealer and a USA warranty. BOTH must be present. The dealer doesn't register it for the customer and you have a right to know who the dealer is. Please stop and think a minute... How can a dealer set up an account for you with Canon or Sigma without providing you the password they used, etc.. It is YOUR registration, not the dealer's..
I'm personally getting sick of wasting my time going back and forth on this, but I will say this. Why is Massdrop not clarifying the issue? Why are they staying silent to several users asking valid questions based on their own experiences? The only logical explanation is because they know they're wrong, and don't want to have to stop these drops. If they truly believed that their customers would be getting the warranty, then they would answer our questions and put this discussion to rest. Remember folks, staying silent and refusing to answer questions is a choice in itself. B Hutch's response to this issue was basically "Trust me". While he seems like a nice enough guy from other discussions I've read his posts on, I do not know him and any company wanting my hard-earned money is going to have to give me facts, not just ask me to trust them.
jreader213Nikon and Canon have very similar warranty policies, and if you look through the replies I used Canon as an example and even quoted their website. People can make their own choices, and maybe Canon will honor it, but you're taking a risk because there's a very good chance they won't. You're not going to have a receipt from an authorized dealer if Canon asks for one if you need warranty service, and they likely will ask for one. That's how these companies operate in order to protect their dealer network.
Okay so I was just waiting for someone to join the drop before I did. But now I am wondering is there something wrong with this drop since no one joined. What am I missing?
JponeYou are missing something Jpone. Unless something has changed you will not receive a receipt from an authorized dealer. Which, in the case of Canon, means that the USA warranty is not of any use. Canon will regard this as a "used" lens without that proof of purchase from an authorized dealer. Jaysun, on previous drops, has indicated that if there is an issue that they (Massdrop) will interact with whichever dealer handled this, but this is not like having a full USA warranty and receipt from an authorized dealer. Check with Canon if you'd like but just trying to make sure what happens on Massdrop vs. Greentoe, where you may pay a little more but get both the warranty and receipt from a dealer. Both options are viable, it just depends on whether or not you want to have a full and direct warranty with the manufacturer.
As an aside, I truly wish that Massdrop would be more direct in this regard when it comes to camera equipment. This is not unlike purchasing gray market cameras, watches, etc. They are exactly the same item, but you lose the ability to deal, in this case, with Canon directly.
Jaysun.. Once and for all to see, I believe you owe it to everyone to be EXPLICITLY and PUBLICLY clear about the warrantees on camera gear (can't speak to other offerings but could be the same). You are, in just about every way, doing nothing more than GRAY MARKET selling by selling equipment (USA Spec or International) without an Authorized Dealer's Receipt. Greentoe also acts as an intermediary between an authorized dealer and the buyer, but you DO receive a receipt from the authorized dealer (of course prices may vary) which provides FULL USA manufacturer's support.
I don't mean this to be harsh, but hiding behind the comment made in that other Nikon Lens link posted above that you never state anything about the warranty is a very thin excuse for not just being up front. People have a right to know exactly what they're getting in terms of warranty and support at the prices you're offering and to be honest, it is the sole thing that has prevented me from making any significant purchase. The more this word gets out, the less likely your success will be (my opinion). What you're doing it preying on those not as knowledgeable or selling to folks willing to take a chance that there will be nothing wrong. Just so folks are aware, Canon charges a $250 up front charge for non-warranty coverage just to look at an item, which would kill any savings.
