Don't waste your money here. Less expensive on amazon and you wont be subjected to customs fees.

SokoThe 1.8 50 mm is cheaper on amazon ( a different lens), but the cheapest 1.4 50 mm on amazon is more expensive. This is a very good price for a solid lens. The difference between the two lenses is the extra aperture ( more background blurring, low light shots...), and an overall better image quality with the 1.4 when stepped down.

MezzWhat you're saying is true, in part. The exposure difference between 1.4 and 1.8 is very very little, it's not even 1/2 a stop. The "blurring" is called Bokeh and again between 1.4 and 1.8 the difference is negligible. The issue (without going into extreme details) is that neither the 1.4 or the 1.8 at this price point provide higher quality images for which a true 1.4 lens is designed. If you want true portrait quality 1.4 focus and bokeh (at 1.4) then you need to step up to a Sigma Art 50 1.4 or an L grade Canon or equivalent Nikon, Sony, etc. lens. The other issue here is whether or not this comes from an authorized Canon dealer and if you get THAT dealer's receipt. If there is no receipt, Canon considers it a used lens (even with a blank USA Warranty card). Canon (like most all the major manufacturer's) require both.
