Product Description
A great introduction to the world of EOS prime lenses, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM delivers sharp image and movie quality in a range of conditions—portraits, action shots, night photography, and more. It has an 80mm effective focal length on APS-C cameras, with an improved minimum focusing distance of 1.15 feet and a circular seven-blade design that makes for some pretty dreamy bokeh Read More
So I did not buy this lens from "Drop" but it is a solid lens none the less. It really is an improvement from the kit lens that comes with most camera's. I've shot indoors, outdoors, bright and dark lighting, fast moving subjects to stationary items, and this lens has captured some great shots. For the money this produces some great bokeh thanks to its apeture. I'd highly recommend this lens as you can spend some big $$$ on glass that'll do roughly the same thing this lens can. I shoot out of a crop sensor as well, so technically I'm missing light and it's not a true 50mm out of my camera. But if I had to buy this lens again I wouldn't think twice about it. Down below is a normal JPEG with no edits. If you want the warrenty you can spend roughly $20 more elsewhere, and you won't have to wait a couple weeks for "Drop" to ship it. Or just wait for it to go on sale. Drop is just another option, and it's up to you where you want to spend your money. I've purchased items without warranty through Drop and haven't run into trouble, but that's up to y'all to decide. Anyways, this is a great lens. I hope this helps!
In the Specs it states "International Spec". Massdrop has done this before. They sell International version or Grey market version to us without FULL DISCLOSURE. This means NO Warranty through Canon. Better off buying new or refurbished through Best Buy, Adorama, KEF or Canon directly. I expect more from Massdrop. Time to start my own competition to Massdrop since they do NOT learn their lesson. Sad, I had high hopes for Massdrop.
bruinimyes and no.
It's a $100 lens. Which is pretty much a pocket change impulse purchase when it comes to the world of lenses. You can get cheaper lenses by Youngnuo or 7 Artisans if every last dime is important to you.
But with all the Canon stuff I bought over the years, warranty was never really an issue. Say what you want about some of their design decisions on the 6D MKII and 5D MKIV, they have solid QC.
The description isn't very clear.
This is a full frame lens. But since it's such a cheap lens, I doubt many 5D and 1D owners will opt for the 'nifty 50'. Which is likely why they included that blurb about 'on an APSC camera'.
Canon's 50 f1.8 has long been known to be much better than it deserves to be for the price. Fast enough, good color and contrast, and pretty darn sharp when you stop down.
The MKII version fixed the annoying focus ring and is less grindy sounding when AF-ing.
It's a good deal on a lens, and for anyone with a Canon EOS camera that hasn't tried prime lenses, this is a very good introduction to primes.
However, if you are on a full frame, just get the Sigma or Zeiss 50mm, or Canon 50 f1.2 which is a classic.
So I am realizing what a mistake this drop is? Someone respond ASAP or I am setting up a dispute with my credit card company and having the drop refunded to me and Ill never do business with Mass drop again. Im spending $200 average in the last 4 weeks. However this drop has a customs bill of $208??? Wtf is up with that???
Maybe you should just go to your customs bureau, show them the bill of how much you paid for the lenses and let them recalculate your import turnover tax. To me it seems they did not find any bill inside the parcel and made a rough value estimation OR charged you the full MSRP because of missing declaration. Or your country have laid heavy import taxes on optical lens products?
But for whatever reason, it is solely your responsibility to know that your country imposes taxes on imported goods
XenoPinguDoesn't matter i reported the fraud got my money back from mass drop. They failed at informing me the idiot and ignored consumer.
now they will see the competitors increase their market share and mass drop lose theirs.
STINGFANI have been watching Massdrop for years and this is typical. Their best price is equal to a decent Sale price in the open market. Sad but true.
Gotta say I'm pretty disappointed in massdrop recently. This lens is cheaper in stores in Serbia (even if I don't count in shipping cost and taxes which I would have to pay)...
