Anyone wanna post and tell me why this isn't that great of a deal?
Because I've been eyeing this camera for a few weeks and this is the lowest I've seen it for. Please someone convince me not to buy it.

NotThatCoolUnless you already have one, get a full sized (not full frame) DSLR. Much better for playing around with and learning if you are a beginner. Mirrorless cameras are good too but lens options and quality are not as good.

berserkerJKAny recommendations? My wife has wanted a camera for a while now for vlogging, and we have a new baby on the way, which we obviously wanna take lots of pics and video of. Also wouldn't mind something small like this to pack in a bag with all the diapers etc., not having to carry an extra camera bag everywhere. That was part of the appeal of mirrorless to me.

NotThatCoolIt's a fantastic camera. You can use EOS M lenses, or buy a $40 adapter on Amazon and use any Canon EF-S and EF lenses. Very high quality video and pictures. If you buy the Canon 22mm F2 lens, it will be small enough to carry in a pocket (yet give you REAL SLR quality). For video it has true stereo mic or external mic input (for an external microphone). There's even an optional electronic viewfinder you can add if you want to do really bright outdoor shooting and prefer the viewfinder.

NotThatCoolI would recommend getting a T7i (800D) or a T6i (750D). They are all-round portable cameras with great lens selection. They have tilt-swivel screens and great autofocus which is great for vlogging. The build quality of these are actually really great for plastic. If you are planning to capture more movement such as sports, then I would be more inclined to recommend the more expensive 80D, which has FANTASTIC video and high frame rate shooting. While it is more expensive, it is a worthwhile investment. I never got one myself since I am more invested in the 7D mkII, which is also an option but I do not recommend it and it is very expensive. I wouldn't recommend against a mirrorless, especially because of the price drop, but it's more of a secondary camera in my opinion. A decent DSLR is great for learning, especially, and you can get a lot more creative. I am personally less inclined to buy a Canon mirrorless over a Sony if I HAD to choose, since Sony is very heavily invested in the mirrorless market. It all comes down to personal preference, if you are a person who likes to keep one lens for its use duration, then a mirrorless is great because you will be taking advantage of the small form factor, but if you plan to get larger telephoto or prime lenses and don't mind carrying it around, then it wouldn't make sense to sacrifice flexibility over portability. Good luck!

berserkerJKThank you so much for the detailed reply. I understand and agree with all your points.
I don't know what it is about the M6 that appeals to me so much but it does.
Lenses don't matter too much to me. As much as I'd like to take up photography as a hobby I don't think I can afford another one. This is more for my wife than me, and if it were up to her we'd probably just get a point and shoot but I did want something a little better / more versatile.

NotThatCoolHm.. If there's not much emphasis on the learning aspect of photography, then I would say go for it, it offers plenty of customization, much more than a compact point and shoot. And the kit lens is great for video especially. Enjoy! And hopefully you see the appeal in the photography world and get some nice pictures of your family. Have a great new years.

NotThatCoolJust saw this drop and was tempted to buy. But "international spec" sometimes makes hard to get repaired or warranted if you live in the USA.

irv17211Exactly. As a pro user, i'm really wary of buying anything that's not covered by a US warranty. This is not. Great price, tempting, but warranty issues could be a headache. Anybody want to share their experiences using International (spec) warranty process or as covered by Massdrop?

NotThatCoolI can't do that man, I decided to risk the possible warranty issues and just get it. I mean worst case scenario I buy another one here locally and return this one if I have to. I'm just hoping that massdrop has stopped sourcing from shady and crappy distributors so I don't have to do that.
