sevenseacatIf only there was a way, in 21st century, to determine demand in advance, and possibly meet it, or make a system which would allow distribution of available items over period of time, or any other of hundreds of methods professional retailers use for decades.
Oh well, I don't expect anything from MD or you, I was simply stating that system is retarded.
sevenseacatLeftover caps from previous drops? Where did they even mention that? So, none of these drops were sold out in previous drops, but somehow everything sold out within minutes today? Interesting.
AudioSentinelAs Yanbo said, they always order extras when putting in group buys, in case more sets are needed for replacements. What isn't needed, gets sold in these drops.

> With any of our keycap drops, we generally order more units than we need just in case. Over time, we end up with a closet full of keycap sets that need to find a home so we’re once again offering these hard-to-find items back to the community.
bushmastuhThese drops are super vicious! There are many more to come I’m sure. A lot of the times these drops happened while I was at work. I missed out on a lot of sets like 1976, Jukebox etc. It was only today I scored, and I wasn‘t expecting it. I thought I’d hit submit and I’d be cartswiped like usual, but they all somehow got through. At this point these drops I’d consider as a lottery since the sets are afterall leftovers from drops I’ve missed. Better luck next time. Hopefully you won’t have to wait 3-4 drops event (took me that much) just to score on a useable set.
LilizzOk, this explains the issue, I believe. I am new here.
I just started getting into mech keyboards recently, all my previous drops were non-mech keyboards related, and it appears that mech keyboard community and corresponding drops (at least when it comes to these expensive key sets) have a life of its own, heh.
I actually wanted to get 3 different quality sets (GMX, SA, DSA) since I want to find out which one will be most suitable for me and my way of typing (rather than ordering random sets from random Chinese sites and risking to get crappy things), I had no idea this was so 'precious'. Everything has a learning curve, I guess.
I'll have to stick with Chinese sets, after all :)
I understand now that this was not a usual drop where they'd send orders to manufacturer(s) after drop is over, my bad for assuming wrongly.
edit: But I don't get it - drop is lasting for 7 days, but apparently everyone knew that things will be sold out within minutes. That is confusing :)
AudioSentinelYou should've said so! Apologies for my misconstrued comment; it sounded like you were a veteran of this community and we get a lot of these negative comments which receive tons of hate. We were all there once- and if you want to try out different profiles like you mentioned, once I am back in the States I would be more than happy to send you a DSA set on the low if you are in the CONUS. Best of luck and again, my apologies.
As for your question, MD has held a few of these drops before and they were well known for being sold out within a minute of the drop activating. If you're not there already, check out /r/MechanicalKeyboards or /r/MechMarket for news as well!
AudioSentinelAnd if you're looking for a good Chinese set of SA profile caps look at the Maxkeys offerings. Only real downside is that they don't do ISO and the only weird layouts they support are the basic 75% kits like the KBD75.
bushmastuhNo need for apologies, I do understand (bit better) the reactions to my comment now :)
I am an old fart, I've used mech keyboards 20 years ago, and it was only 3 weeks ago that I purchased a mech keyboard again (after trying friend's Das 4 Keyboard - ugly one with blank caps, but had those brown switches). So yeah, information overload did its thing, I am simply overwhelmed with too much information. I still can't comprehend that people invest so much in keyboards and key caps, for me it was just another tool, I didn't realize how big the communities are.
I will try to do much much more reading and hopefully I'll be better prepared for the next drop of this kind. Or I will just try buying the sets for the full price (I live in France, don't have much available locally, except few shops in the UK, I believe). But then again, for the price of such a set, I might buy a Topre keyboard (which is, allegedly, the best thing ever).
I think I am starting to understand why this drop sold out so quickly :)
Thanks once again.
RainbowraptorThank you for the advice.
I think I will start by reading the wiki on /r/mechanicalkeyboards - it appears that there is just too much that I don't understand :)
Due to having a job, I wasn't able to purchase anything, even 15 minutes after drop started.
Great planning there, guys.
