The Caviar and the Grand Blu are actually smooth to the touch. The guilloche (engraved pattern) is on the barrel, which is then covered in layers of colored lacquer. I have the similarly made Leman du Nuit with a medium nib and love it. I'd been looking to pick up the Grand Blu in a fine, and I have never seen a price this good from the US or European vendors. The nib on these is smooth and enjoyable. It's not flexy at all. I would compare it to a modern Pelikan m800 in touch, though it has a tad more tooth and is more true to size than m800 nibs. My big worries before getting mine were that it might be too narrow and that the metal section might be slippery. Neither was the case. The section on the new Lemans (at least the Leman II guilloche ones) is wider than on the old ones and has a very comfortable shape. I use mine all the time for journaling and write three to five pages at a clip without any hand fatigue. Last comment - yes, the "piston" in the ad copy is just a converter.

JJFFUpdate: I received my Grand Bleu from the previous drop, and it is beautiful in person. You can see the color and finish better in my attached crappy cell phone pic. The fine nib writes very smoothly with a bit more feedback than the medium, not surprisingly - it feels like writing with a very good pencil. I'm very happy, and the price on these is the best I've seen outside an Endless Pens flash sale.

These are great pens. I have three of them. One of them had a problem with the nib out of the box. I send it back to them (in Switzerland) and they fixed it and shipped it back free of charge. Love the pen. The nib is not flexible, but a great writer. You can definitely feel the quality of this pen. I have one new version and an older version with the plastic grip section. For some odd reason the metal grip section of these is not slipperly, like other pens I have with have a metal section. Overall, very very nice pen. Not for long sessions though, because its pretty heavy.

it-manThe description says it's silver plated. Silver is inherently a bit grippy, while gold is more slippery. Mouthpieces for brass instruments are available as gold or silver plated due to these properties, to provide grip or slip according to individual player preference.

Bob_the_WinoThat explains it!!! I have been wondering for a while why some of my metal grip pens are grippy and other slippery. Really appreciate the feedback.

Just want to check if the Caran D ́Ache Léman Bicolor Turquoise Fountain pen will be available in this drop or in future drop?

It's NOT a "piston pump," it's a converter, a simple converter not even a piston converter like a Con-70. I don't know if it's a lousy translation, or simply a bad description poached from Amazon, but it is very misleading.

For me, this might be worth it if the pen had a 14k nib instead of 18k and a piston fill mechanism. I do love the inks they make. THAT would be a great drop!

Flexibility has more to do with nib design than material. Have many modern pens both in 14k and 18k, and the gold contents seem irrelevant. Regarding pen value, nibs use so little gold that for a $400 pen, nib implementation is far more important than gold value. These are nice pens, but for $400, there are definitely better choices.

tokataMichael Masuyama might have something different to say that doesn't support your statement. What I said was based on a conversation we had.
