Hi guys new to buying custom keycaps here. Could i ask whether the Modifiers Extension kit is a worthwhile investment? Joined the drop for the K-type and i understand it doesn't require the Modifiers Extension kit. Just afraid down the road i might pick up some other keyboards which may require the Modifiers Extension kit caps. Is it common to require those different sizes? I am already near the $300 mark on the drop... not too sure if i should commit for these "just in case" scenarios.
By that time, there probably will be a different set of caps you will lust after. Just get what you need for the keyboard you intend to use it with - imho. If you get a different keyboard in the future, you can take it shopping for new caps at that time. If you intend to sell the set in the future, you'll get more buyers if you have the extensions - obviously; that's the only reason I'd get them if I didn't need them.
Thank you so much. Wasn't really thinking about the reselling option. I do agree there will be other sets of keycaps which may cause my eyes to wander. Just the thought of waiting nearly a year to get my hands on these carbons makes me wanna have as little regrets as possible. Thanks for the advice.
I would advice to get those. Two reasonable points were already called above:
1. Freedom to move the keys to other layout like hhkb, wkl, 65%, 75%..... with numpad also 96 and 1800 look a like layouts.
2. Resell value. Guess the modifiers extension will be the most sought after kit on mechmarket after some people realize they would like to move the keys to another board.
Yeah, having sets other than alphas+TKL really increases the 2nd hand price, and how quickly you resell. But, tbh, I stopped buying sets for future keyboards - every time I end up getting new caps, because, SHINY!!!!
