ahndrewUm, it's all relative. $2.5 off $70 is about 3.6%. With over 500 base kits, assuming they profit 30% (which is probably an under assumption). 500 x 70 x 30% = 10500. And 500 x 2.5 = 1250. So they've only given us about 12% of their profit. Plus, it's a let-down and takes away from the hype. "Oh we've reached 500 units, the group is saving 50k but your massive discount is only $2.5 dollars". IMO, either set lowest price or give material discounts, $2.5 is just not cutting it both for consumers and marketing.
HouseBelieve me, I agree with you that they should be offering us more of a discount. Over 500 base sets and over 2,000 individual orders? Of course we should be seeing more than just $12.50 total off the base sets.
Frankly when I saw the $79 price tag on the first day of the drop I resigned myself to the fact that that was going to be it regardless of how many were purchased, and same for the child deals, because that's how all of the latest sets on Massdrop (Jukebox and Mito for example) have been, and I declined to join both of those drops for that exact reason. For them to say, "This is the price we are willing to offer, regardless of whether we get 50 or 5,000 orders" is ludicrous. The mechanical keyboards community is just that: a community. And I think they need to respect that.
Do I think we should be getting more of a discount? Absolutely. But do I expect Signature Plastics to give it to us? No, because this is their game and they set the rules.
