I bought the 2m HD 800 4-pin XLR version and was impressed with the resolution of my recordings. The cable really does improve the resolution (focus) of instruments and vocals by about 15 %. The Sennheiser stock balanced cable is already damn good! I did email Cardas support with some photos.

The left limb of the cable about 4 " above the bifurcation is significantly frayed right out of the careful packaging, which has me wondering whether this drop involved the sale of any factory B stock. When Cardas gets back to me on this, I'll get back to Massdrop with their response. I know the product well and know that they probably wouldn't do this. More to come....
Update: Cardas already manufactured a replacement which is being delivered very soon. Final Update-October 24th 2018: Replacement cable is excellent. Returned the pilled cable to Cardas. I'm very happy. Back to 5-stars.

audioadvocateHow did you quantify the focus improvement of the instruments by 15%?

RT.1128My estimation is a subjective approximation. I have a CD that I use that is extremely well-recorded and contains instrument location cues that few orchestral recordings possess. I have used countless discs popularized by Stereophile and The Absolute Sound, but the disc I think is best is Polygram/Decca recording 410253-2 of the Montreal Symphony with Charles Dutoit conducting Scheherezade and Capriccio Espagnole in DDD. This disc presents a holographic experience as regards instrument location and timbre. The orchestral complexities do not muddy up one's ability to be able to locate and focus on the individual instruments.
With some recordings, instruments tend to wander with changes in pitch or volume. Not with this recording. Compared to the stock balanced Sennheiser cable, the Cardas cable seemed to put a finer resolution on the solo of the 1st violinist. The texture of the strings and their exact location in space is better resolved by about 15% or so more than with the stock cable. Oboes and other woodwinds, horns, etc. all seem to be more finely resolved. Granted, Sennheiser HD800s headphones are already fairly holographic, but the Cardas cable seems to yield even more resolving power. I do not work for Cardas and don't own any other Cardas cables.
The cable I received had a few pills in the fabric covering of the left earspeaker cable above the bifurcation. I contacted Cardas and they already have a replacement being sent by FedEx.
Also, Cardas assured me that no Massdrop cables were from "B" stock. These are all new, first grade made-to-order cables.
