I have the hifiman he-400 and the he-400i. Would I be better getting this to power them or the fiio e17k alpen 2?

this is more powerful than Fiio E17K. Although would you need so much power after all?

I don't know! lol I'm new to the hi-if community and I just started with the hifiman and e17 combo! Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm a total newb. Would you recommend I get this as a future proof amp? Or go for the cheaper e17k? The e17 I bought was used for a couple years so I got it really cheap just as a starter amp.

E17 is good enough to drive HE-400 afaik. This one is good to drive something more than 300 ohms and when you don't own something like an E17 already and especially if you feel the bass is lacking on the headphones. It has a tasteful bass boost. However even E17 has it I believe?
p.s you may head over here to read reviews http://www.head-fi.org/products/cayin-spark-c5-dac-portable-usb-dac-headphone-amplifier

The e17 I have doesn't have bass boost. It just has treble and bass gain adjustments (unless that would be considered a bass boost?). I was also looking a picking up a pre owned jdslabs o2 amp because it was extremely cheap too.

yea that's precisely what's touted as bass boost on C5D. O2 is a good amp. You can get the B-stock for $99 from the website itself. Their is a comparison of JDSlabs C5d with Cayin C5D on head-fi. You can probably check that out and make an informed decision. I own a Cayin C5D. Although I don't experience on any other DAC+Amp combo apart from Schiit Fulla and Fiio E07K both of which the Cayin trumps.

Do you think I should get a DAC for the o2 amp as it's the v1 without the ODAC? Or do you know if I can run the o2 through my e17 as the DAC? And thanks for the advice!

If it doesn't have a line out then I don't think you can unless there are adapters to bypass the signal to amp. I might be wrong so don't quote me on this.
