Remember the Space Race
CCCP’s Sputnik-1 CP-7002 timepiece is designed in Russia with an aesthetic that harkens back to the 1960s Space Race. The dial’s complications include a 60-second subdial at 12 for running seconds, a 60-minute subdial at 6 that’s tied to the chronograph, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Look behind them and you’ll see subtle geometric engravings that call to mind latitude and longitude markings on a globe—or perhaps a symbol of a supernova. Around the outer edges of the dial are a combination of dot markers, trapezoidal markers, and Arabic numerals. The stainless steel case that encompasses it all is water resistant to 50 meters.
