It says 480 degrees, but this seems like the perfect thing to use with a grill (which can get a lot hotter). Anybody grill with this?

I hate to bash a thermometer but.... if you are looking to buy a real thermometer pickup a Thermoworks Smoke. 99 bucks but you won't be disappointed. I'd love to see Massdrop work a deal on some of their products.

Would this be low enough latency for coffee roasting?

I'll keep my maverick. A few hundred feet between the receiver and transmitter.

Any idea if this is Bluetooth or BLE? I already have a BLE dual probe and it's great, but the range is only like 15m and at that point it's real choppy through a couple walls.
I can't wait until someone makes a WiFi version.

dual probe therms rock. You can monitor both meat and oven cavity temperature. A must have for serious roasters

I have no experience with these thermometer. Has anyone used similar products? I'm wondering if there's any use for it with an oven(as I have to shut the oven door on it).

I have used 2-3 similar to this type of thermometer (NOT THIS EXACT ONE!) in my kitchen (and on the grill!) over the last few years and I find them indispensable, although 2/3 broke randomly. I love being able to relax while something is cooking and get beeped at when it reaches the right temp! No more manual checking nonstop
Overall, they are fantastic to have and use but just make sure to have a "manual" backup somewhere still in case something happens :)

In case anyone wonders, no problem to shut the oven door. At least mine has a rubber around the door. I've used mine successfully to measure oven temp and meat temp at the same time.

What is the accompanying app called? would whoever is managing this drop add some pictures of the app in action? Since it's a major selling point on this drop it seems like a fairly large oversight. Thanks.

Thank you! That seems like an odd name for an app, but i like the simplicity (and the color scheme too). I appreciate the quick response.

Their website simply says it's a Thermistor, I'd hazard a guess at it being a 10k NTC

Thats a shame. Looked like it might have been a cheap alternative (gifting) to a Thermoworks Smoke.

A review on Amazon says it's advertised at 100 feet, but seems weaker, even when not taking surroundings into account.

I'd expect it to be much weaker than 100 feet. Bluetooth as a spec is really only intended for low-power short-range communication. more like 40 feet at most with some reduction in distance through walls. 100 feet is quite a bold claim, and likely reflects ideal lab conditions.
