Bring back the HRT microstreamer, and ship it to Canada and I'll bite.
The DACport eats too much power (can't run from iPhone), gets too hot, and has a reputation for problematic (noisy, channel imbalance etc.) volume pot.
THIS! The "shortcomings" I referred to in my first post refer primarily to issues with the volume pot. My year old+ modded DACport exhibits these exact same issues (audible noise when rotating the volume knob and slight channel imbalance when initially increasing the volume from the zero position). Outside of warranty, I was requested $100 for the repair, which is a big no no considering the device is fully functional otherwise. Despite this, I've no other portable combined unit (AMP/DAC) with as much power as the DACport, and that's truly why I've owned mine since.
Just to set the record straight, we have changed to a much better quality pot about 2 years ago and recently have had no issues with the pot. Of course we replace them for free if something goes wrong within the warranty period. The other comment about not working with the iPhone I would support. DACport really shines with laptops and desktops. It's designed to drive by cans and has much output power, more than many similar devices. The comment about running warm -- the sound quality results from the Class A output amplifier. Those always run warmer. With the DACport you basically have a desktop Class A -type amp in a portable package. Hope this helps.
Sorry about your bad pot. Must be old design pot. New ones are superb. Email me at info at CEntrance dot com. We aim to please and I will help out.
@CEntrance my first time jumping on Hi-Fi audio, any recommend headphones with DACport 1 Ohm?
Much appreciated. I'll follow-up via email shortly.
Replied, settled to mutual satisfaction.
Never ceases to amaze me how whenever I've had to reach out to the CEntrance for support, it's Michael Goodman (managing director) who personally handles any and all concerns. Needless to say, the active Head-Fi'ers here know CEntrance's community involvement, and their support is sincerely second to none. Thank you for a quick workaround!
