I know this is a very specific question but maybe someone has an idea:
I recently picked up a DragonFly 1.2 to use with my LG Optimus G Pro (well-known to have USB audio output), but no combination of external power and OTG cables will work. My HiFimeDIY Sabre DAC worked fine, no problems, no external power needed.
Is there any reason to believe that a DACport Slim will work with my phone? I want to try it, but I'd feel like an idiot if I was wrong a second time.
Dookiei highly doubt it would work because Dacport Slim requires more power than what OTG can give. Try COZOY astrapi.
Btw, Dragonfly works well with Nexus 5. No third party app required.
DookieProducts like the dragonfly, e10k, fulla and the slim etc have very high power draws via usb and are not designed to be powered from the usb port from your smartphone directly. USB audio output just means it has the ability to bypass the internal DAC on your phone and send the digital signal to an external DAC via USB OTG. This is why these products are designed to be plugged into desktop PCs or laptops and some tablets and devices like the surface pro where they have a higher current power supply and can support the higher voltage required for such USB devices. Or in combination with powered USB hubs. Your hifimediy dac is compatible because it is DAC only sans amp. The slim has a impressive high output class A amp stage so your smartphone alone wont be enough. If you're looking for an amp/DAC device to pair with your phone, look for something thats battery powered with its own power supply. The FiiO E18 comes to mind as a suitable all in one device.
ZhiwenSo I was actually able to get the DragonFly to work through the HibyMusic app without the need of an external battery. Poweramp, UAPP, Onkyo weren't working at all :O
I think I'll give the Slim a try and keep whichever I like more :D
DookieFwiw the Slim works with my Nexus 7 tablet without external battery and my HTC One M7 as well as Xperia Z3C with external battery (all with UAPP).
The battery drain wirh the Nexus 7 is pretty radical though. I think you soon will see that the Dragonfly also drains your phone pretty quick (although not as fast as the Slim since it has less power).
I'd also likento add that I find the Slim to sound excellent and it also feels very solid and works as intended for me.
