I know you can attach this DAC/Amp to a Mac, but want about directly to an iPhone or iPad? Obviously not though the headphone jack on either the iPhone or iPad, but if I go through the data port on the bottom do I need an app or software for the DACport Slim to sync properly with the iPhone or iPad?
So I have the lightening to USB adapter, I would then need a USB to micro USB cable, a battery supply of some sort all to use the DACport Slim. I thought the Slim would work off the iPhone battery (Have a Mophie battery extender case, so, have extra battery capacity). Starting to sound like I should just get a C5D from JDS Labs. Having to carry three devices, source, Slim and a battery is starting to get more complicated that is reasonable. I am starting to NOT see the value in the DACPort Slim, unless you need a very small DAC for some reason other than supporting mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. Thanks for getting back to me and helping me figure this out.
The iPhone can't provide enough power, and only a small number of Android devices can power the Slim. I'm not sure about the Mophie battery case, though (can't test it either as I have a HTC One M9). Even so, the Slim has a pretty high power draw(which'll drain your battery quite quickly), and in general this dac/amp wasn't really advertised for use with mobile phones.
The C5D is in a completely different price bracket. Earlier in this discussion people wanted a portable version with a battery, so something like the DACportable is something you'd probably be more interested in: http://igg.me/at/dacportable
The primary intended use for this product is with laptops and desktops. That's what it's designed for and that's where it truly shines.
I agree for mobile use the dacportable is a better option but I didn't see it on your site when you go to the buy option. Is it currently available?. I could use the slim with my macbook, but spend a lot of time in airports and on planes, so my iPhone and iPad are primary means of entertainment.
It's currently on Indiegogo. See link in a couple of posts above. Anticipating shipping in July, likely earlier.
is the DACPortable the same as the DACPortable HD except with a battery?. If so what I as the expected battery life between charges?
Yes, pretty much the same, except DACportable adds native Apple compatibility (meaning no CCK needed). Battery life is testing 8 hours so far.
CEntrance, in regards to the DACportable, is the battery replaceable? and do you forsee the battery life decreasing over time?
We use a very solid battery supplier. Previous battery-powered product HiFi-M8 has been in service all over the world since 2013 and we have not had any of them come back. Having said that, we can replace if needed.
