Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. I tuned the first two to be as neutral as possible. I then did a blind test with 7 people using the q701. Nobody can tell a difference (highest score was 4/10 right, or pretty much the equivalent of random guessing. If there is a difference that you can hear and is outside the powerful placebo effect, it is only worth the money if there are some issues with your past setup and you need a dac/amp combo to fix it.
No hate towards CEntrance. This is a nice, well made device, neutral and doesn't colour sound. It's just for most people, I am not sure if this much money is worth it for audio, as most people that I randomly picked didn't care at all.
Edit: it was 7 people. My bad. : )
Consider that you will always find people who cannot tell the difference between a nice car and a cheap one, a tasty meal and junk food, a good book and a trash novel. In each of those cases you can argue either for sophisticated, developed taste or the placebo effect. With thousands of products sold, hundreds of positive reviews, and having been featured on the cover of Stereophile twice, we certainly don't believe our products offer placebo effect.
