Will the DACport Slim be any good for driving the Fostex TH-X00 headphones? I joined the drop yesterday and am thinking of getting a DAC as well, preferably a portable one. The headphones has kinda low impedance (25 ohms). I have an iPhone 6S if that matters at all.

Jimbobler1I am using a DACport slim from a previous drop with my TH-X00 as my daily work setup, on low gain setting. I keep the volume at around 70 to 80%. I am a basshead and I like my music loud, I can max the volume, but then my ears start to hurt after about 10 minutes. I am very happy with the pairing of the TH-X00 and my DACport slim and can wholeheartedly recommend it, sounds amazing.

IvorNice, even when using it with a smartphone? I'll probably not use the TH-X00's outside very often (because of the looong bulky cable), but I use the phone as my main music source at home.

Jimbobler1As noted in previous posts, you can use a usb charger to power the device if your phone does not have enough juice. The slim does not come with the cable adapter you would need so keep that in mind: https://www.amazon.co.uk/cable-Samsung-Galaxy-black-Micro-USB-Anschluss/dp/B00EJP5XR2/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_6?ie=UTF8&dpID=41%2BTH2pVWNL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR133%2C160_&refRID=89ZAVPNP1Z03F0VW5N2M

IvorThanks for the reply. I'm still not 100% certain if I'm going g to get a DAC right now; I'd rather try one out first and see how big the difference is, haha.

Jimbobler1I can tell you that there's no difference between a cheap 7 year old computer's built in dac/amp and a new expensive computer's dac/amp. I'm not gonna be able to test this out. I might as well get it because it will be easy to sell if I don't notice anything.

SenorPlatanoI don't notice much (if not, any) of a difference between my budget laptop's dac, my new workstation pc with a red motherboard, or the DacPort Slim. It is all well within the placebo effect, and whatever I hear disappears once I'm blinded.
:P
I tuned the first two to be as neutral as possible. I then did a blind test with 7 people using the q701. Nobody can tell a difference (highest score was 4/10 right, or pretty much the equivalent of random guessing. If there is a difference that you can hear and is outside the powerful placebo effect, it is only worth the money if there are some issues with your past setup and you need a dac/amp combo to fix it.
No hate towards CEntrance. This is a nice, well made device, neutral and doesn't colour sound. It's just for most people, I am not sure if this much money is worth it for audio, as most people that I randomly picked didn't care at all.
Edit: it was 7 people. My bad. : )

U-3CWithout a doubt you will find people who could not tell the difference between sound cards. But some people do hear the difference and this product is for them ;)
Consider that you will always find people who cannot tell the difference between a nice car and a cheap one, a tasty meal and junk food, a good book and a trash novel. In each of those cases you can argue either for sophisticated, developed taste or the placebo effect. With thousands of products sold, hundreds of positive reviews, and having been featured on the cover of Stereophile twice, we certainly don't believe our products offer placebo effect.

U-3CI showed my friend my TH-X00 and he said it sounded the same as free oem white earbuds. I let him sit in my $200 Ikea chair and he said it was as comfortable as his $50 Office Depot chair. He said mouse isn't more accurate than a controller and that 60fps doesn't matter. My friend is wrong in a lot of ways now that I think about it.
