Anyone know how well these pair with HD 650s? I plan on picking up the HD 6XX.

SomeTechNoobI don't quite like the HD650 but I gave them a few tries with the DACport. I love the HD600 though.
Based on my ears, they have no issues. They sound exactly the same straight out of my iPhone 5s as when pushed by the DACport so I guess it's a good pairing. If you like the HD650, you will get the HD650 sound out of the DACport. No colouring at all, just louder.

U-3CI've been reading a bunch online and the majority of people on head-fi and sbaf will say that a mobile phone output won't really do the cans justice.
I do have a DACport HD now though. Maybe that'll give the 6XX a bit more oomph than the Slim. I shall compare when the time comes.

SomeTechNoobYeah... Not with my phone. But I'm deaf so nobody should care. :P
The HD650 has high impedance so I don't really worry too much about distortion. I also don't listen to classical so it gets more than loud enough.
When I stole my friend's HD600 with permission, he just stared at me using my phone to push them. :P he recommended me to use a noisier laptop output instead as he claims the phone isn't good enough, with a dedicated dac/amp being the holy grail of unlocking the headphones. I stuck with my phone. Then I tried the DACport. Not really much of a difference that I noticed during the short listen.
After letting him listen to the HD600 out of my DACport (he doesn't have a dedicated dac/amp), he recommended me to get a gold plated USB cable, as he can't really hear much of a difference either and he thought that getting a better cable should improve the sound.
But hey, we may both be deaf, like the majority of human beings out there.

SomeTechNoobSay, do you have the Slim and the HD?
If so, I have a few questions:
How much does that extra 3db increase in volume help?
Are they the same in low gain, max volume, or is one louder than the other?
If you use them with a mobile device, does one drain the battery faster than the other?
Cheers! ^_^

U-3CI think you guys probably needed a bit more time for a/b testing. It took awhile before I noticed the differences between my HTC One M9's headphone out and the DACport's output. Nowadays I find it relatively easy to tell the difference. Maybe training your ears really is a thing.
As for a gold-plated usb cable - that's probably not it. Gold plating on a digital signal doesn't do anything except make it anti-corrosive against the elements. Turns out it's a lot harder to swap 1s and 0s than it is to mess with analogue signals in a headphone wire.
Anyways, I know where my next work paycheck is going. This will be my last headphone purchase for awhile haha. Hopefully they're endgame for me.

SomeTechNoobI do notice a difference with my old S3, and it took some time (aside from the noise). However, for my iPhone, even if there is a difference, it's so small I strongly believe it's not worth 100 entire dollars plus shipping unless there are actual issues with your source. In my case, I'd rather use onboard for the convenience, battery life and the lack of hiss. Open back headphones automatically do not count as they deserve to be in a quiet room with a desktop setup, not a portable one on the go.
Spending 100 dollars more on better headphones is probably a better idea. Or just buy more food from Chinatown. Think of all the rice you can get...
\(0w0)/
Search for headphone stores near you and visit them with your DACport. You might find a few HD650s lying around the city for free listening. Better to listen for yourself than to guess.

U-3CI, unfortunately, currently lack the equipment to test and answer these questions.
All the headphones I have currently are super efficient and can be easily powered by a phone. So I have no idea if the extra 3db helps, or if low gain max volume is the same since I'd probably blow out both my eardrums and my headphones. My HTC One M9 can't power these by themselves and require external power. If I hook up external power, I have no idea which drains battery faster anyways.
However, I can provide pretty pictures.

My Slim is now part of a little compact-fi kit I put together.

Also, I found out that a lot of my devices with onboard audio use some sort of software trickery to turn off the output when no audio is playing. It happens with both my XPS 13 and my HTC One M9. I can sometimes hear the audio output turn on and have a noise floor that is in fact higher than the Slim. It's quite odd, but interesting.
I took a look online but I can't find any headphone stores near me. Which is disappointing. I've got 5 days to think if the HD 6XXs are worth the cost and upgrade from my SHP9500s.

Hmm, maybe I should grab a used HD 600/650/6XX too. Can't go wrong with saving money.
The case is from a JLabs J4. Pretty terrible earbud. It came with the nice pouch though, so I guess it was worth the $5 I paid for the thing.

The mesh section fits the Slim like a glove. Quite a nice little case.

They are, unfortunately, the same to my ears. The HD might be a tiiiny bit quieter, but for all intents and purposes they seem to have the same noise floor at both low and high gain. It's faint enough for most of my 32Ohm stuff for me to not care, but my JLabs J4 is apparently 16Ohm and will bring out the noise floor most than the rest. I have a set of KZ ATR, which are also 16Ohm, coming in later this month. I can give those a test and report how those are affected by the noise floor.
tbh I just wish CEntrance did a revision where the low gain was a bit lower. I barely have to touch the volume knob to get all my cans and IEMs powered right up to listening volume. I've never gone past halfway on low gain during regular listening sessions.

There's a sale on 11/11 on KZ's official store btw. You can pick up the KZ ATE/ATES/ATR for under 4 bucks. It's cheap enough to easily collect.

SomeTechNoobSo, did you manage to get HD6xx from MD or are you hunting for a secondhand? I wasn't able to get one from MD.

ridhuankimI gave up after half an hour. I'll probably pick one up off the used market in december or january. Or I might just spend the funds elsewhere. Kind of up in the air now.

SomeTechNoobI will absolutely be wrong, but dare I say I think many people will be upset with their impulse buy and choose to sell their HD6xx afterwards instead of buying a thousand dollar dac, tube amp and some fancy cables???!!

SomeTechNoobI hope you will find your end game and stop there. ^_^
I personally hate to see people constantly spending money on audio equipment, because they are not satisfied with their previous purchases (usually because of deceiving reviews and biases).
Think of all the burgers one could have bought...

U-3CI really do hope the 6XX are my endgame. I just found it kind of ridiculous that my dac/amps are more expensive than my headphones themselves. It doesn't feel right.
6XX comes with a 3.5mm instead of the 1/4" on the 650, so it'll fit right in with the Slim/HD.

SomeTechNoobI see. Hope you get your moneys worth.
(I wasn't impressed because it sounded the same out of an amp compared to my iPhone, just louder, but then again, this is a neutral amp pushing a high impedance can. What should I have expected? :p It just gives you the HD650 sound, so if you like that sound, it's a good pairing for you. )

SomeTechNoobdont use dacport slim with phones. The reason is the power from the phone in usb. Same fiio e10k is better with 5v out power in usb, the phones can't give this power ouput.

SomeTechNoobI purchased UM PRO 50 yesterday as my end game. Yet to try with Dacport Slim but sounds amazing on my Fiio X5II + Fiio E18. Now I need to sell off other IEMs to fill the hole in my wallet :)
