All this talk about headphone amps is fascinating and valuable... And I really liked the Emotiva mod thread (I had no idea!); however, this is a discussion about speakers and a speaker amplifier design... (grin), so, i'd really appreciate it if I could get answers to my last couple of questions:
1) any chance of a 50wpc stereo amplifier? (Effortless power with room to spare almost always sounds better than barely-enough power to get by ;-) 2) if not, then how about a bridged-mono mode (for use as a 40-50w monoblock, possibly even differential)?
Thanks! :)

jeremya1) Our long experience with the DACmini PX shows that it has plenty of juice to drive the MC2504. In fact, we designed the amp (peak power is actually more than 25W) to never "clip" the speakers. This means that it will have headroom, but you will never hear a crunchy sound when the cone is trying to move beyond its safe excursion zone. So, I would advocate staying with a beefy amp, but not going too far -- you risk the chance of blowing the speakers out if not careful. 2) See above. I believe that we found a good balance -- we have enough power to give you distortion-free sound and yet prevent the speakers from blowing up. This is really where an integrated amp comes in handy -- powered speakers have the luxury of matching the drivers to the amp. We inadvertently did the same with our amp, even though it's outside.
Lastly, in my opinion the space inside the speakers should be used to move air, not to store amplifier PC boards. I remain convinced that the extra air inside the speaker improves linearity and flattens frequency response. This is why we put the amp on the outside, rather than offering powered speakers with the amp inside. Sound quality is what drove that decision.

CEntranceThank you very much for the detailed and thoughtful reply!
My last question is a simple one -- how is "CEntrance" pronounced? Is it "SEE-EN-trance" or "SEN-trance" or "sen-TRANCE", etc.? :-)

jeremyaLike the word entrance: "sentrance"
CE stands for consumer electronics, therefore both capitalized ;)
