I don't understand threads like this at massdrop. If you don't believe in the sonic benefits of premium speaker wires (or interconnects for that matter), then fine, move on, go to another drop. Or if you feel like having an argument, go to one of the dozens of threads in various audiophile forums that debate the issue ad nauseum.
In otherwods, what would be more beneficial here is to debate or discuss the quality of these particular cables, not whether premium cables are a hoax in general. The old debate of "Home Depot electrical cables are just as good as $500 premium cables" is not specific to these particular cables, that's why I suggest it be held in a separate forum (just like debates over whether we can really hear high-res music, or if tubes really sound better).
That being said, I will give my two cents on the generic issue: when I finally bought my dream system the last thing I wanted to do was worry about my speaker cables or interconnects, so I went for premium cables. Your stereo is a bunch of things that can go wrong; poor speaker placement, poor source music, bad room acoustics, electrical interference, lack of synergy between your components, etc. it's nice to be able to check off each thing that can go wrong, for me premium speaker cables allow me to rest easy with that one aspect of the system and let me focus on other aspects that are harder to "win". In other words, whenever I suddenly feel that my system dos not sound as good as it should, and I have to start running down the checklist to isolate the problem, it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about the problem being in my cables or speaker wires.
But your priorities may vary and that "peace of mind" may not be worth it to you, which is fine.

HawgYou realize you could still have gotten defective cables even if you paid a million dollars for them, right? You'll never get true 'peace of mind' from that perspective, this is just pissing away money.

HawgYou make some great points, but this thread is like a piranha pool. Better watch from a safe distance :)

bigsid05It's possible yes, but unlikely for truely premium brands, those get multiple quality tests. Also, most (not all) failures would be catastrophic (I.e. The speakers would not play at all), so you would likely know they were bad.

HawgI get that you'd want to buy better-built cables for the sake of longevity, but the reason why everybody's panties went into a collective knot on Massdrop is because of the repeatedly disproven benefits expensive cables come with, and the audacity with which vendors mislead potential customers, most of whom are woefully uninformed. I use mostly Cordial cables. They've held up to years of abuse, on and off stage, and they're working fine to this day. And they sure as hell don't cost $400 a pop.

HawgYou still probably have a higher likelihood of getting defective cables than hearing the difference. Meaning you still don't have any "peace of mind"
