In the world of mechanical keyboard switches, no name is bigger than Cherry. Here, we’re featuring the venerable Cherry MX Clear switches, historically made with black housings—but available in the RGB style with clear housings for the first time ever on Drop Read More
jmarceloThe only thing that makes the Boba U4 silent tactiles...silent..is the stems. Not the casing. Also, you asked...
"Do you know of another quiet tactile switch with high actuation that's a little heavier?"
So I replied, you can get u4 Boba silent tactiles 62 or 68g by the single switch, or $19 for 30 or the cheapest straight from gazzew website.I got some of the original casings Bobas with SMD cut out for RGB backlit keyboards. And then I got clear housing Boba U4 silent tactiles and they are the same sounding and feeling switch.
If you're making Ergo clears then...make Ergo clears.
I’d be psyched if this was 4 years ago and I couldn’t get them anywhere, but now we have Zealios, Holy Pandas, etc. Tempted maybe for a nostalgia 60% build. At least they’re not MX Greens.
Why?
Why oh why?
Why oh why oh WHY oh why have Cherry not fixed the tight-fitting stem?
Like, of all the things we wanted to improve on the MX Clears, I don't even think RGB housings came third on that list.
Can you at least confirm if these are smoother than stock MX Clears with the black housings?
And are these 3 or 5 pin (plate or PCB mount)?
Thanks.
RominroninMX Clears were designed for industrial use, so the tight stem was likely a response to customers complaining about keycaps coming loose after some time. They're not intended for the general public and they probably don't want to swallow the cost of redesigning their moulds just for the enthusiast community.
I only have a standard black housing set of MX switches on a switch tester. These sound a bit more scratchy than the ones on my tester, but it could also be the board. I'll do a same-board comparison later.
