How is it just ok for these to be shipping out 6-8 weeks late (for the natural)? Kind of sours me on the Massdrop experience in general.

matt178It also appears the august ship date was known about all along and they only claimed it was a typo when there was an outcry. I dont think the small savings is really worth the 4 month wait.

Matt09The ship times for these boots has been a moving target ever since the first drop. We relay information from Chevalier as quickly as we get it. There have been leather shortages, staffing issues, and postal strikes that have each independently caused delays in this process.
Egar has been adjusting his staffing levels (has hired two extra artisans over the last 6 weeks) to keep up with production. My understanding is that his forecast of getting people trained and up and running isn't as accurate (or efficient) as he had hoped. Keep in mind the last batch was delayed because one of the pairs of boots didn't meet his quality control standards, so he had to remake it.
I think the lesson learned from Massdrop's perspective is that for small-batch, artisanal goods made in large quantities (and overseas), we should take the quoted deadlines and double them before putting them on our pages.
We genuinely have no interest in deceiving people (it's an unsustainable business practice), but perhaps being more cautious about relaying quoted dates in the future would be prudent.
Thanks for your feedback.
